1971 Challenger Convertible Hemi
« on: April 21, 2016 - 04:50:33 PM »
Here's the short story.  I was recently diagnosed with the big "C".  I am doing well and may actually be free of the disease for now.  The point of telling you all this is I came to realize that maybe I should get some affairs in order so my toys aren't left for my family to deal with if something were to happen to me.  My wife and son don't need to deal with my "stuff".  So I am seriously considering selling my Challenger and picking up a Hellcat to satisfy my need for speed.  It is my belief that the Hellcat would be much more easily liquidated if the need arises. I am looking for some input on what I should start off with as an asking price for my Challenger.  Here are a few of the details.
It is a '71 Convertible,  Citron Yella with a white top and white interior.  Lots of sheet metal has been replaced (floor pans, quarters, fenders).  It also has a shaker hood and R/T stripes.  The drive train is a 472 Hemi with an Eagle crank and rods, Comp Cam, Indy intake with EZ-Electronic fuel injection and MSD ignition,  TTI 3 inch exhaust with stainless steel tips, 727 trans with Transgo forward shift manual valve body so the factory slap-stik could be retained,  Dana 60 with 3.54 sure grip.  Disc brakes at all four corners,  Goodyear tires 275-60-15 on the rear and 245-60-15 up front on Ralleye wheels.
The car is in very good condition and runs great.  I can post more pictures but here are a couple for now.

What makes you think a Hellcat would be easier to sell?   While a clone it's still an appreciating asset vs a Hellcat which is a depreciating asset...  Granted a fun toy but not really a financially sound investment....  :2cents:

What about getting a buddy to look after getting it to a BJ or Mecum auction when the time comes. Easy on the family and you get to keep it.

Thoughts and prayers for your health.

Assuming the car is a 318 car originally and not a 340, 383 etc...

I would say over $80K may never happen
I would say $65k-$80K would take some time
I would say $45K- $65K would be average
I would say less then $45K would sell this week.

Just my opinion...

I agree with1wildrt the 71 would retain its value for many years. A hellcat will be special in 10 years or more. :smokin:  Take care!

Thanks to everyone for the input.  I haven't decided to pull the trigger on selling just yet and I appreciate your opinions.  It's a tough call whether to do it or not.   Alan, thanks for your price guide.  Those look like realistic numbers to me.

I agree with Alan on all accounts here. I don't think you will have much trouble selling this car, just depends on how much you gotta have for it. Bro I sure hope you kick this "big c's" butt! Good luck on all accounts.

Thanks, I fully agree too.  As far as the cancer, I just went to the doctor and I am cancer free at the moment.  I am scheduled to see the oncologist every 3 months until further notice and lots of follow up scans and testing are in my future.  I can live with that.

Any chance you can post up some more pictures of your seat beast of a Convertible please.
