repro Cuda dashpads - recommendations please.
« on: June 15, 2005 - 04:53:52 PM »
So it looks like I might have to buy a replacement dashpad after all - any recommendations on suppliers/quality products please.  I've been told that the Chally dashpads from Year One are good but the Cuda ones are average (there is a considerable price difference between them which may be the reason) so wondering about alternate suppliers.  Do they come with the speaker grills?

Hi Oz,
This is a tough situation. We've had mixed results here. First off know you need to send in a core, so that might cost you dearly. I bought my dashpad from a guy in Texas. He sells on E-Bay. Ultimaterides, or Ultimate dashes, I think he goes by??? Anyway, I love it. Just a little trimming around the gauges, but it looks and feels SOOOOO much better than any dashcap.

My car came with a dash cap made by a company called Dashtops. I was surprised how well it fit and how good it looked. I removed it because whoever installed it had cut large square holes for the end speakers so that if fit over the grilles. (its for sale by the way) When I removed it I found that my existing dash wasnt that bad with the token crack on the drivers side of the speaker. I havent got to it yet but I was going to try and fill and repair it.

YearOne sells two different types.  The first type is rebuilt on the original metal core.  The second type uses a plastic core doesn't require a core.

Has anybody bought/used the second type?   Which do you recommend?

Do NOT get the plastic core dashpad!  Fits horrible from what I've heard.

Best dashpads out there are the Ultimate Rides' dashpad that you can find on Ebay everyday.  Cheaper than going straight through them.

The Just Dashes redo are very very NON-OEM looking to me.  I can spot one 20' away.  Looks like a dashcap to me.  Not cool for $600+.

Send in your core just wrapped in plastic wrap for the cheapest shipping possible.  If you do not send in a core, it's $250!!! :eekbig:

Do you have a link to a reliable seller of the Ultimate Ride dashpad?  I have searched ebay but came up empty.   :dontknow:

I found this one in Texas, but has different seller name.  Is this who you are talking about?

Oh, in case the link no longer works due to age, the seller's id is:  nitrouspowered

Yep, that's the guy I bought mine from. I couldn't think of his E-Bay username.  :banghead: Like I said, a little trimming around the gauges, and AC vents, if you have those... but I'm happy with it.

These look very nice.  It appears you need order ahead of time since his delivery time can be 3 weeks.  Good price.

This is another good example of why we need a vendor board to let people know these are very good quality and at a lower price that YearOne.  Will save members some bucks.   (me included)  Thanks.

You can also call them. The name is Ultimate Rides, and they are in El Paso Tx. You can do a Yellow Pages search on the net and get the phone #.

I had a different experience with just dashes!! my ex order one for his 71 chally sent in his core and he got back a dash and I thought it look just like my original! granted this was back in 1990 things might have changed by now but I thought the dash looked wonderful! The phone number for just dashes is 1-800-247-3274. He just put it right in no trimming necessary or anything!  Maybe he was just lucky!! (but He was a fowl mouthed jerk so if something was going to go wrong it should have gone wrong for him!! lol)

Very early on, Year-one would do redos and I think all they did was send it to JD.  Back then, you still could get the original material.  maybe that's what you got and you're lucky.

JD dashpads I see now...no way Jose.

thats a lot of coin when my aching Mopar could use the money elsewhere. On the other hand, it is one of the single-most visible parts of the interior the car. I love my car and all but the realist in me says its hard to justify that much money on a 72 model when the cap looks 90% as good. Am still thinking on repairs on my original, has anyone had any luck repairing cracks on their original dash?

Just dashes did a blue 70 pad for me back in 1999...VERY nicely done, no problems whatsoever. I was going to use them again for my 74 pad....i guess i'll have to do some more checking.
