For today, I thought that I would introduce another car from Cody's stable. I do not know the VIN of this particular car, but I refer to it as "The Bicep Hemi".



This former race car use to do some heavy hitting on the drag strips and also some heavy hitting on Cody when he came to pick it up. Cranking down the ratchet tie-down straps Cody tore the bicep in his right arm!    Not wanting to get laid up in St Louis, Cody hopped in his truck and drove solo cross country back to Washington with only one good arm!    Bang it here to read all about it if you haven't already http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=103478.0

When the car was advertised on ebay and the St Louis Craigslist there were some good pictures of the car in the ads. Sadly, the only one that I seemed to have captured and saved was the one of the fender tag. Cody, maybe you can post up a pic or two of the car for us and share a little bit of its history with us? The VIN is 201396.  The engine and trans would be stamped B0 201396.  The Challenger is super clean and for sure a 15,204 mile car!  I was able to track down some previous owners.  One guy that owned it in the 80's actually drove the car and he put about 3,000 of the 15,204 miles on it and confirm the original miles.  The reason it's so clean, low miles and rust free is the guy took out the door handles out and put in remote door solenoids in the early 70's.  Then he put plastic filler when the door handles were to smooth out the openings and make it aerodynamic.  They didn't work very well so he just kept the door windows down and parked it inside.  Only driving it on nice days.  The guy I spoke to (last know person to drive it) had to take all the solenoids out and the plastic in the handle area.  Since he worked as a tech Dodge he got some Cuda door handles (all they had in stock) and put them back in.  The trunk still has the remote solenoid in it.  The Challenger had about 12,000 miles in the early 80's.  After the Hemi was removed it had a 340 in it for a short time and then a 440+6 engine.  That 440+6 cracked around 1989 and got pulled out.  That's the last time it had an engine in it.  This Hemi Challenger was not registered for the first 5 years or so when new.  The first owner would trailer it to the track to drag race it on the weekends.  Then he registered it so he could street racing and was doing pretty good, however people started avoiding him and wouldn't race him for money anymore.  So he pulled the engine and trans out and put it in a 66 or 67 (maybe even a 68) 4 door pink B-Body.  He was racing for money on the streets and it was much easier to get people to race when he was in a 4 door pink car.

My arm is 100% good as new and might even be better then it was before I tore it.

I was going to get the restoration going on it this summer, but a friend bought a 70 440+6 Challenger that is a twin to this car and we're going to do them at the same time (both 4 speed EF8 with green interiors).  So maybe next year it will finally get the restoration it deserves. 

You really keep good notes!  How many Hemi cars are you tracking?  Now if you post info on the EV2 Hemi 4 speed Cuda project I have I would be very surprised.  It hasn't been in the public eye for nearly 25 years.

Okay, okay ... this isn't Cody's EV2 4-speed car, or at least I do not think it is. Cody, since you teased us by mentioning your EV2 4-speed car, maybe you would like to share a little more info and pics of it with us? 

I don't know who currently owns this Tor-Red beauty but it sure is nice. BS23R0B176668 is 1 of only 652 made for the U.S. market, and of those 1 of 284 with a 4 speed. It is finished in EV2 Tor-Red with V6X black "hockey stick" stripes and a H6X9 black vinyl interior. This car is equipped with the A21 Elastomeric Front Bumper Package, A34 Super Track Pack 4:10 geared Dana Axle Package, A67 Backlight Louver Package and a J81 Go-Wing among other things making it one rockin' ride!

I hear a Hemi Cuda has been stolen. The Mod Top.

If it has been, that would be a real shame as "The Mod Top" is a true one of a kind machine. As a tribute to "The Mod Top", it is today's R-code Hemi E-body of the day.



"The Mod Top" is 1 of only 652 made for the U.S. market, and of those 1 of 368 with an automatic. It is finished in EF8 Ivy-Green with V6X black "hockey stick" stripes, a H6F8 green vinyl interior and of course the ultra-rare V1P yellow "Mod-Top". "Mod-Top" cars are pretty rare and this is the only Hemi E-body known to have been originally equipped with a "Mod-Top". Here is a better view of car's "Mod-Top":



This car is well known and part of Steve Juliano's collection. I do not know the VIN of this car, but the SPD is C12 (December 12th) which should put the VIN somewhere between 216400-216500 (if you know the VIN let me know)? This unique HemiCuda is nicely equipped with the A21 Elastomeric Front Bumper Package, A36 Performance 3:55 geared 8.75" Axle Package, A62 Rallye Gauge Package, B51 Power Disc Brakes, C16 Center Console, G31/G33 chrome LH and RH Sport Mirrors and a R22 AM/8-Track radio.

Well since Neil threw it out there, this former SS/DA car is today's selection. BS23R0B214234 is 1 of only 46 made for the Canadian market in 1970. It is finished in EF8 Ivy-Green with V6X black "hockey stick" stripes and a H6F8 green vinyl interior. It was originally a dedicated race car and campaigned in NHRA's Div 6 by Jim Ronoghan as "Old Trapper" (the front tires look huge - they almost look taller than the slicks out back!)



and then later by Garry Wolinski as "Tuff A Nuff" (I really like this picture! )



After the 1983 season, the car was retired from racing and placed into storage, until 1996 when a restoration back to stock was undertaken. It has since been returned to stock condition in it's original EF8 Ivy-Green color, with just under 2,000 original miles on it and having never been registered for the street.

 Raced as Trapmate , owned & raced by Lee Brothers , it was sold to a friend in the early 80s I do not believe this car has been registered for street ever or yet .
Ok the rest of the story I knew this car was for sale & actually Talked to Lee Bros about buying it .... the asking price was 18 k in 80/81 I was at least 10 k short though  ! The buyer had deeper pockets & raced it for years , If I had bought it would have just sat being too broke to doing anything with it just like my Chall has.

Today's car is a 1971 "Mr Norm's" Hemi Challenger RT. JS23R1B108804 is 1 of only 71 Hemi Challenger RTs made for the U.S. market, and of those 1 of 59 with a 4-speed. It is finished in FE5 Bright Red with V6W white R/T stripes and a H6X9 black interior. This Challenger was originally equipped with the A34 Super Track Pack 4:10 geared Dana Axle Package, A45 Aero (front and rear spoilers) Package, B51 Power Disc Brakes and a N96 Shaker hood.



Apparently having a Hemi Challenger RT with 4-speed and a 4:10 rearend wasn't enough for the original owner Charles Starr, Charles wanted a "super" Challenger, so he had Mr Norm's do some performance modifications before accepting delivery of the car. He had Mr Norm's install a high-rise intake, headers, toss the Shaker hood and replace it with a lift off "Six-Pack" hood (hard to believe, but true!) and perform a "Stage III" dyno-tune. 



Ironically, after having Mr Norm's create the "super" Challenger for him, Mr Starr kept it for only a year and 5,200 miles before selling it to a friend. The friend for some reason decided not to sell it, but to place it into long-term storage. Before doing so, he had the foresight to spray the car down with a coat of WD-40 before sealing it away in a storage container for what turned out to be 35 years! In 2006 the car emerged from storage and after a gentle clean-up, and thanks to the coat of WD-40, needed only new tires, RT stripes and a tune-up for it to return to it's glorious former self. Check it out, that frontal view makes it out to be one "super" bad looking Challenger!

May 5th "Cinco de Mayo"

I couldn't find a Hemi-Ebody exported to Mexico ... but I did find one originally exported to ... Guatemala!   Guatemala is a Spanish-speaking country so that's close enough for me! So without further ado ... may I introduce to you ... "The Guatemala Hemi!"



Yes this HemiCuda is the "real-deal", rolling out of Hamtramck as BS23R0B146424. Though it now sports a gunmetal gray finish with a black interior, it originally was finished in FT6 Burnt-Tan with a H6T5 tan vinyl interior. 



From the Fender Tag we can see what its original configuration was. Note the rarely seen H25 code - "heater delete" - definitely don't need a heater in Guatemala. Also note the "Y09" and VON beginning with the letter "E" designating this car being built for export ... to of all places ... Guatemala!

May 6th "Seis de Mayo"



A Hemi Challenger RT as a family car? Yes indeed if the car is "El Hemi"! A Venezuelan immigrant named Jose Escalante immigrated to Detroit in 1969 and worked at Chrysler's Hamtramck plant. One of the first things he did was purchase this brand new Hemi Challenger and used it year round as his personal and family car. The story of Jose, his family and this car is well documented with lots of pictures on "El Hemi dot com."

El Hemi was passed on to Jose's two sons Juan and Gustavo, who had the car restored in 2002 by Rick "Resto-Rick" Kreuziger. The car now sports a N94 TA style Fresh Air Hood and is equipped with the A33 Track-Pack 3:54 geared axle package, B51 Power Disc Brakes, C16 Center Console, G36 Dual Painted Sport Mirrors, and S77 Power Steering among other things.
