The second Hemi E-body - BS23R0B100010 - the Press Preview Promotional car. This car was used to make the sales brochure for the new E-body Cuda. It is 1 of 368 automatic cars and is finished in FE5 Rallye-Red with V6X black "hockey stick" stripes, a V1X black vinyl top and a PRX9 black leather interior.

The car has some unique features to it as the Chrysler designers apparently were still unsettled on a few design elements before finalizing them for production. One of those unique features appears to be the wheels, which are not the standard "steelies" or optional Rallyes, but appear to be silver Road Wheels?

Another minor design tweak can be seen with the Shaker. This HemiCuda's Shaker has it's air-inlet grills painted a matching color to the Shaker. Later production car had their Shaker's air-inlet grills painted black regardless of what color the Shaker was.

This is a great picture that shows some of those design elements that the Chrysler designers were still undecided on. The most obvious one is the tail panel, which on this car is Argent silver (like that found on the Barracuda Grand Coupes) instead of the Organsol Black which was used on the later production cars. The other, but less obvious item, is the "hockey stick" stripe. This car has the "long" hockey stick stripe where the vertical "blade" of the stripe extends down past the body line to the top of the side marker light. This is in contrast to later production cars where the vertical "blade" part of the stripe was shortened to only extend down to the body line.

Cheers!

Went out to the West-Coast for a couple of weeks ... Bay area ... Monterey ... Malibu ...

Back to business ...

EB3-GC, since you were minding the store for me while I was gone and threw up that video of Tom Lembeck's GA4 HemiCuda 'vert, we might as well make that the next feature car for this thread ...

Being one of the "Elite-Eleven", this car doesn't really need an introduction ...

BS27R1B175215 is 1 of only 11 1971 HemiCuda convertibles ever made. 1 of only 2 made for the export market, and of those the only one with a 4-speed. It is finished in GA4 Winchester Gray with a H6X9 black interior and a V3X black convertible top. The car was originally built for export, and shipped to France (France?). It stayed in France until about 1992 at which time it was imported back to the U.S.

This is an older picture of the car from when John Burns owned it. Note that the car does not have the V6X black billboard stripes on it as they were not original to the car. This car is nicely equipped with the A33 Track Pack 3:54 geared Dana axle pkg, A62 Rally Gauge pkg, B51 Power Brakes, C16 Center Console, C62 Six Way Seat, P31 Power Windows and S77 Power Steering among other things.

GA4 Winchester Gray is such a great color, almost chameleon like, where it can look anywhere from gray to blue depending on the light. The V6X black billboard stripes were added by Tom Lembeck as a matter of personal preference.

You may have already viewed the video that EB3-GC posted for us, but if you want to read a Hot-Rod magazine article about the car, bang it here http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/mopp-0102-1971-plymouth-barracuda/

Hey Tom, it was great meeting with you at De Anza show.
Love this 71 WG but I still like it better without the Billboards.

Tom,
My pleasure in helping out! I dig non-typical colors, and odd options; which both of the above cars have!

Yeah, I love GA4 too ... I'm not a big fan of the "billboards" (just TOO big of an accent for me), but I do love GA4 with black accents like a vinyl top or RT stripes. Jeff (71340RT) has a GA4 Challenger RT with black vinyl top and black RT stripes but he won't let me near it any more because I keep leaving drool marks on it

Anyway, got another GA4 car for you all ...

1 of only 75 1971 Hemi Challenger R/T's ever made. It is finished in GA4 Light-Gunmetal with what looks like a H6X9 black interior. Unfortunately I don't know anything about this car other than what can be seen in the picture. Wish I could read the display placard, but other than "1971 Hemi Challenger" I can't read any of it. From the background, it looks like this picture could have been taken at one of the MCACN shows in Chicago?

Not a lot of flashy options on this one. If it wasn't for the "426 Hemi" emblazoned callouts on the Shaker, it could easily have blended in with traffic with it's non-High-Impact paint, vinyl side mouldings and steel wheels.

Anyone know or recognize this car? If you do, chime in and bring me up to date on it's details!

Continuing our love of all things GA4, next (and last) is BS23R0B345763. Rumor has it that only three '71 HemiCuda's were painted in GA4 - this one, Tom Lembeck's mega-dollar 'vert, and a yet to be found (by me that is) third one that may still be out there somewhere. Anyone know of the third GA4 car?

Frank Badalson has owned the car twice: briefly in the mid 1970's and then again since 1994. In 2002 Frank agreed to match race his 54,000 mile "survivor" HemiCuda against Dennis Kohr's 1970 Hemi Road Runner concours show queen for Mopar Muscle Magazine. Frank's HemiCuda took 3 out of 3 over Dennis' Road Runner.

Some time after 2002, the car was bought by Las Vegas mega-collector Brett Torino and was part of his collection until as recently as 2015. In 2015 Torino sold off a large part of his collection to Mecum Auctions and this HemiCuda hardtop sold for a whopping $950,000 at Mecum's 2016 Kissimmee auction  :faint:  I don't know, but $950K sure sounds like a record amount for a '71 hardtop?

Bang it here to see the Mecum ad for this car in case you missed it early this year when it rolled across the block at Kissimmee  https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0116-229801/1971-plymouth-hemi-cuda/

How about something bright?

Do you like red?

How about this Rallye-Red over red interior with red Elastomeric Bumpers, red Shaker and red Sport Mirrors ... that's a whole lot of red! Sammy Hagar would love this car!

This red beauty is BS23R0B146622. It is 1 of only 652 made for the U.S. market, and of those 1 of 368 with an automatic. It is finished in FE5 Rallye-Red with V6X black "hockey stick" stripes and a H6E4 red vinyl interior. This bright HemiCuda is equipped with the A22 Elastomeric Bumpers Package, A32 Super-Performance 4:10 geared 8.75" Axle Package, C16 Center Console and G36 painted Sport Mirrors among other things. A whole lot of red looks great to me!

JS23R0B209758 is 1 of 287 Hemi Challenger RT's made for the U.S. market, and of those 1 of 150 with an automatic. It is finished in FC7 Plum-Crazy with V1X black vinyl top, a H6X9 black vinyl interior and is a V68 Stripe-Delete car.

This car has the A32 Super-Performance 4:10 geared 8.75" axle package, B51 Power Disc Brakes, G32 / G34 body colored Sport Mirrors and S77 Power Steering among other things. But one of the things that is unique about this car is that the automatic is on the column. Reportedly only three Hemi Challenger RT's came equipped with the auto on the column and this car is one of them.

With the hard-hitting automatic (on the column no less) and the 4:10 Super-Performance axle, this Hemi Challenger RT will quickly get you to the "checkered flag"
Cheers!

JS27R0B229923, aka "The Super Grape", is owned by mega-collector Dave Blake and was one of 27 cars on display at the 2015 MCACN Hemi E-body Convertible invitational. It is 1 of only 12 1970 Hemi Challenger R/T convertibles ever made. 1 of only 9 made for the U.S. market and of those, 1 of 5 with a 4-speed. It is 1 of 5 Hemi Challenger R/T convertibles finished in FC7 Plum Crazy, has V6W white longitudinal stripes, a HRX9 black leather interior and a V3X black convertible top.

Clear picture of the Fender Tag showing the car's impressive options. From the Fender Tag we can see that it is equipped with the A01 Light Group Pkg, A33 Track Pack 3:54 geared Dana axle Pkg, B51 Power Disc Brakes, C16 Center Console, C62 six-way seat, G31 RH Chrome Sport Mirror, G33 LH Chrome Sport Mirror, P31 Power Windows, P37 Power Top and a R22 AM/8-Track Radio among other things.

I really like Dave Blake's approach to sharing information about his cars. Dave is pretty transparent with his cars information in how he throws it all out there on big display boards for everyone to see. I really like his style ... thanks Dave!  :2thumbs:

Cheers!

$5600 was a lot for a car in those days. That would be like buying a Hellcat  money wise. What was the average price for a 70 Challenger ? $3500 nicely equipped? Glad someone was able to pony up the funds though, nice to look at!
