My door hits my front fender.
« on: April 27, 2016 - 02:05:03 PM »
I had to put the car away last seasons and was forced to replace the engine.

Got it back on the road to take to the trans shop to throw in the TF2 shift kit suggested by the board and I opened my door this morning and SCRATCH it rips the paint off my door.

What is the easiest way to adjust this? I hate bodywork with a passion.

Has the door moved?  Hinges worn?  striker loose? If the gaps look good between the door and rear quarter then loosen the fender bolts to slightly move the fender ahead.

If the only thing you did was change a motor that sounds like chassis flex...bad juju!

Has the door moved?  Hinges worn?  striker loose? If the gaps look good between the door and rear quarter then loosen the fender bolts to slightly move the fender ahead.

Sometimes ahead, sometimes slightly out, sometimes applying upward pressure on the fender while you tighten the bottom bolts....   Pushing up bows the center area out slightly, shimming the bottom moves the bottom 2/3rds out & usually you can loosen the two nuts on the flange ahead of the rocker sill and shift just the lower fender leg if the gap is tight...

It's likely the door moved it scratched it right at the body line. I think it has some worm hinges as the door has some up and down play in it.

Just wiggled it I'd call some door play a substantial amount of door play.

I never play around with re-bushing old worn hinges anymore. I just buy brand new ones from AMD :2cents:

I got a pin and bushing set from Napa a couple years ago. I think it was around $12. Works great for a driver.

I'd rather add bronze bushings... Bronze has always been an excellent choice for long life in this sort of application Vs replacing the original steel hinge which a AMD (Chinese) knock-off...

It's great that so many parts are now reproduced if you need them, in the case of hinges you really don't... :2cents:
