Have my numbers, now what?
« on: June 15, 2005 - 08:50:55 PM »
I have a 1973 Cuda, 340 with auto.  I am trying to determine if the any of the numbers match.  I have a build sheet, fender tag, title #, vin # and numbers off of the block, tranny and rear end.

Now that I have all these, how do I know what matches what?  So far I dont see any obvious matches, but Im not sure what to look for.  I can post numbers if someone would like to have a look.  Just let me know which numbers are needed.

Ok, Im going to post them anyway.  Here they are.

Tranny:
3681191
9104

Engine:
2780930-340-5

Rear end:
2881488
3107

Fender tag:
26 EN2
M31 M88 N41 N42 V6W
H51 J54 L25 L31 M21 M25
V1F U B41 C16 C56 G37
JF8 A6XW 000 511 441627
E55 D34 BS23 H3B 488526

I have decoded the fender tag, but thats it.  Does anyone know if any of these match or not? Let me know if any more infor is needed.

Thanks for any help.

You need to look for some more numbers. Look on the passenger side of the block, down near the oil pan is a raised pad, it should have the last 8 digits of your VIN stamped if it matches. For the transmission, passenger side again, look for a raised pad with the same numbers. The rear end will not have any VIN numbers on it.

Check the body numbers too, one on the cowl and one on the radiator support.  They will look similar to the engine and tranny numbers, except the year and plant digits will be transposed.

Best of luck,
Barry

Also the dash pad (drivers sid VIN), Driver door jamb (sticker) and the build sheet sequential number.

The number is the last 6 digits. In your case it looks like the number you are looking for is 488526,that is, if your fender tag is the orig.

Let us know what you find.

Barry gave you all the information you need to know to find the numbers, so now just check those two bosses to see if they correspond with the numbers you provided from the fender tag. (3B488526)
