Any members up in Northern Alberta?
« on: May 05, 2016 - 01:44:08 PM »
I hope is there is any members up in Fort Mcmurray right now they are all out safe and sound.

Huge wildfire has caused the evacuation of a town in Northern Alberta. 88 thousand people forced to evacuate, huge destruction as the fire swallows the town.

The devastation is surreal. Lots of friends live there. All out safe thank god. Dry conditions and high winds equates to unpredictable fire direction. 1800 buildings have been lost. Airport is in jeopardy. All oil sands plants have been shut in. Not so much because of fire risk but due to lack of available manpower to operate. That equates to something like 2 millions barrels of oil per day. Friend of mine lost his house which he and his family have lived in for 30 years as well as his beloved 69 Z28. My prayers are with you all.

I'm not sure what they had for snow,  we had no snow but typically don't get much either.  I'm about 1200km from there though.  It's been a very warm spring,  they are getting 32° C (90° F) weather right now which typically doesn't happen till late June that far north

It is awful. Saw it on the news........
If you live out in the Rockies or near forests you will know why all the fires.

The 100 plus year old Spruce are dying from a spruce beetle.
This has been going on since the 90's.
These dead brown pines are a disaster waiting for a flame.

I'm in Edmonton, we have had over 30 our employees loose homes in FMM. I know for a fact there are a lot of beautiful mopars in FMM. 20% of the homes lost so far, I've heard estimates of $7-8 billion in damage so far. Even tonight there are people North of the city waiting to be evacuated. There are 6 dash cam videos on you tube right now you should take a peak of. I spoke with a husband and wife that were stuck in the grid lock in this neighbourhood and they had no time, left the animals behind and didn't have time to put shoes on their childrens feet. In one of these videos you can see a deer running into the fire. The next few days are going to be very interesting to see what happens, the fire is expected to double in size.

I sent 8 of my employees up on Wednesday (Day #2) with 30,000L of gas to give away for free to help stranded motorists. All the fuel stations were closed for obvious reasons. Many motorists fled town with 1/2 tanks of fuel and needed to drive 4.5 hours south to Edmonton. The only station near the half way point ran out of fuel several times. Hundreds of vehicles were left abandoned by the side of the road. In the pic my employee is holding a sign that says "free gas." It made me smile when I saw the Charger being rescued. He didn't need any free fuel, mopar guys are always prepared!
