dash pad removal
« on: May 08, 2016 - 09:26:09 PM »
Hey everyone,
I just removed my trashed dash pad in my 71 Cuda. I removed it without removing the entire dash assembly like I've read most people do. It actually wasn't too hard at all. Partly because I removed the heater box a couple of days earlier to send off to get refurbished and took the glove box out to be replaced as well. The six screws on the passenger side were a breeze to get to with these items removed. The three screws above the instrument light bar were a no brainer. The other two screws behind the instrument panel were a different story. Those took the longest. I just used a tiny 1/4" drive ratchet with a 3/8" socket on one and a tiny 3/8" open end wrench on the other. Took about an hour total to remove all the screws.
One word of warning though, I had put a dash cap on about two years ago when i bought the car......Remove it before you try to remove to dash pad!!! I had to actually remove/rip/cut the cap off first to get the dash pad out.
I have one coming from Dante's at the end of the week. It's from Ultimate Rides. He had it in stock so no sending my pad off for months to get rebuilt. We'll see how it looks and fits.
I called Just Dashes and they were 2 to 3 months out. More money too.
I"ll keep you guys posted.........
