Turn signals work when headlights are off only. ??? (LEDs)
« on: May 11, 2016 - 12:17:13 PM »
I switched my bulbs to LEDs. Now I have my turn signals working but not when the lights are on. What am I missing?

Which lamps did you switch out ? All?

Do your hazards work with lights on?

Will turn signal flash once then stay solid and not blink again?

Do the turn signals work with parking lights on?

Does the left or right dash arrow light up when you have this issue

Do you have a relay kit added to the headlights

Sorry lots of questions ..

Which lamps did you switch out ? All? Yes, all of them

Do your hazards work with lights on? No, same as turn signals

Will turn signal flash once then stay solid and not blink again? no, just solid on the dash. No actual lights

Do the turn signals work with parking lights on? No, same as headlights on

Does the left or right dash arrow light up when you have this issue - yes they stay solid.

Do you have a relay kit added to the headlights

Sorry lots of questions ..

Did you replace the flashers when you changed the bulbs?  The stock style flashers won't work with LEDs.  The LEDs don't use enough power for the flasher to work.  If you haven't already, go by a couple electronic flashers. You'll need one for the turn signals and one for the hazards.  Don't know if that would cause your problem but you need the electronic flashers anyway.

Yeah, my blinkers work fine as long gone as the lights aren't on

So wiring wise the two circuits have nothing to do with each other.

When you turn on the headlight switch you  switch 2 completely diffent circuits : headlights and marker/dash

my thought is that one of the led lamps  is bridging  both the  marker light pin and the  turn signal pin inside the socket  .  So it's lighting both circuits inside the lamp when you flip  up  headlight switch  shunting your signals .

Again this is a guess ...  I would change the front and rear sig lamps back to conventional lamps . Make sure the sigs  work again  , then change back to  LEDs one by one testing after every lamp install  to find the offender.

I have seen led replacement lamps that had big u-shaped globs instead of  dots for contacts  on the bottom  causing issues.....

Again my  :2cents:   I dont know what products you used

THIS IS THE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER BEHIND THE ASH TRAY i USED WITH MY leds.   :villagers:  dAMN cap locks.            you dont have to swap the pos and neg to get it to work,  plugs directly into the socket. You do have to add a gnd wire to the 3rd terminal

It would seem to me your h-light cct is biasing the ground of your turn signal cct. Just thinking out loud here and haven't thought it all through yet. But led cct are sensitive to voltage drops in the wrong places where an incandescent buld will still illuminate, albeit not as bright.
Maybe enough to make your flashers not work? Double check all the power connections and grounding of your hlight cct.
