New here with '70 barracuda
« on: May 11, 2016 - 12:47:26 PM »
Hey guys, finally picked up my "dream car" of sorts. I wanted a '70 Hemi 'Cuda, but a '70 Barracuda works for me. I've wanted one since I was 7 years old. It was the first car that I saw that made me think about cars at all!
It is all original with one repaint with repairs done to the left front fender. 318 AC car. Looking forward to the restoration of this thing and modification to what I want it to be.

Welcome from NY. Great help is available here. What kind of modifications do you have in mind for your car?

I want to make a nice driver out of it(never been a fan of "trailer queens"), being that my dream car is a hemi 'cuda I'm thinking it will go that direction.
A gen III hemi seems to be the best option for me at this time as I want a driver.
6.1 or a 6.4 swap controlled with the holley dominator is what I had in mind with a 4L60E trans.
I would also be interested in the gen II hemi, but the fuel economy kind of kills that idea. You always hear those stories of 17-20 MPG with efi but I am very skeptical of those.
Still a ton of research to do on the subject, and still a lot of work to be done on the car before that all happens.
I will be picking the car up either tomorrow or Saturday, I will grab pics then for you all. It had a vinyl top on it so the roof is shot, upper quarters has rust and the trunk extension, the trunk floor is bad also. The rest seems pretty solid

Probably paid too much for it, but these things aren't easy to find around North Dakota, nor Idaho where I am from originally

The guy I purchased it from was an awesome guy, he had three of them. This one, a '71 BS car that he is keeping and a '72 BH that's also for sale (black no front suspension, engine etc.)

Mine also started life as a 318 car, but was fortunate that someone already installed a 440 prior to my purchase. My next project is going to be a 318 build.  I really like the 400hp magnum head concept that HotRod did:

I think the challenge of maximum bang, and minimum buck looks interesting!

I would think maximum bang with minimum buck would be a 5.9 magnum from a pickup, cam swapped (a little more aggressive roller cam), four barrel intake and carb, and a hand port on the heads. This may be what I do in the meantime.
The current 318 in it is locked up solid.
