true 71 'cuda dash emblem
« on: May 13, 2016 - 09:06:00 AM »
I recall seeing once "what owner claimed to be all original unrestored" 71 cuda that had a dash emblem that said 'cuda not the commonly seen Barracuda name plate.

question is;
did factory ever make a dash emblem name plate that said 'cuda ?
or did they all have the barracuda emblem?

70 only had barracuda in cursive script

71-74 had a rectangular metal piece that glues on that says cuda.

It would be pretty simple for a sign shop to make you a custom Cuda dash sticker to replace the stock metal Barracuda overlay.(71-74 style)  After removing the stock overlay from the plastic bezel, you could trace the outline on some really thin aluminum if you wanted to.  That would give you something solid to attach the sticker to.  Then you can glue the assembly into the plastic bezel.

that's actually what I have already done ...
because I didn't think they ever made a 'cuda dash emblem,
so I made one, but I wanted to make sure factory never did made one,
...waiting until I got this verified...
thanks for the reassurance.

The dash ALWAYS said "Barracuda" whether embossed as on the 1970 dash, or as a sticker on 1971-74 dashes.

huh, that is interesting...

I have been planning to use my emblem I made, as it looks very similar to the original just shortened to 'cuda
but I might hold off on installing it if we can track down a few more like this, as "killerfish's" does not appear to have the "ribbed" backing just the surround.

Judy,
Your '71 is an unrestored survivor, one owner car, correct?

Yes, it's unrestored, we ordered the car in '71 and it was a daily driver for many years before taking it off the road.  But does not look as good as the one Alan is doing now.
