Toyota Yaris question - Oil pan gasket or no gasket?
« on: May 13, 2016 - 10:32:58 AM »
I am prepping a Toyota yaris for a cross Canada drive however we have been told that the dented Oil pan will not pass a BC inspection.

I bought a new pan and gasket but the world seems to be mixed on how to install it.

I have three methods - does anyone know which one is correct?

1. No gasket just RTV
2. Gasket installed with a thin layer of RTV on the gasket
3. Gasket with spray Adhesive

the gasket is a fel pro unit it looks to have some blue rtv sealant already built in but it does not go around the bolt holes. The oil pan is brand new.

If you use the gasket I would follow the inluded instructions .
a bead of Right Stuff sealant with no gasket would seal it up too as long as the sealant is carefully applied

I thought the gaskets would come with instructions but it's just the gasket in the box. I thought a quick google search would find the answer.

I believe using rtv on the gasket is a good way to get the gasket to fail. Use one or the other, but not both.
My personal preference would be the rtv without a gasket.

I was thinking this route myself.

I work for Toyota and it does not come with a gasket from the factory, just RTV
