AMC Eagle?

Hey folks....

Wondering if anyone here has ever owned an AMC Eagle, 1980 to be exact?

Have my eye on one and wondering about the AWD system they use as far as reliability etc......and any possible known issues to watch out for.....how hard to work on, etc.....

Thinking about one for my kid to drive around.

Even if you get a Gremiln X in the best possible shape, it is still a horrible car.  Crappy ride.  Long nose and short wheelbase makes it want to swap ends easily.  It was not reliable and was ugly.  The metal is super prone to rust, and crumbled easily.  Junk car. 
    My uncle in Kenosha had an Eagle 4x4 and loved it.  I don't know anything about them, but I remember him telling me it would go through anything.  I like the Eagle much better than a Gremlin.

We had one of these at the farm. It wasn't road worthy by the time I got my hands on it but jump after jump, Mud pit after mud pit, field race after field race it just WOULD NOT die and believe me we tried. It outlasted pickup trucks and any other car on the farm. What eventually killed it was wasps. They entered through a variety of rust holes in the floor and made a condo out of it. No one wanted to clean it out so it rotted away for 10 ish years then towed away with a bunch of other dead cars.

It was originally brown exterior with a tan interior. 4 x 4 auto.

I can also say that in the great white north they are still looked for winter use and because of that the ones that are left are about as structural as a potato chip. I often wonder if I got behind the wheel of one now, if I think it would be as awesome as I remember it being.
