late model roofrail seals, who has the correct one??????
« on: May 16, 2016 - 04:54:58 AM »
Team,
Same old question,,, who has it correct?
I have a 73 Cuda, in the below picture, you will see the comarison of the new Metro roofrail seal against a factory original. Close but no cigar!  in the picture, the top surface is what goes into the roofrail trim, the roofrail trim secures the original very well, no glue or b.s needed. the Metro wont stay in the trim, if you look at the top surface it doesnt have the same hump to it which is probably what compresses to force the oposing edges out into the trim to hold it in place,

can anyone confirm if there is a current seal maker doing a more correct seal closer to factory original please??

and NO, I dont want to be plastering adhesive into the trim to ssecure the seal in place!

You might try Softseal. I had a problem with some of the Metro stuff on my 71 also.

Watching with interest Greg, as I have the exact same problem.
I did read somewhere that the "soffseal" replacements were more like the originals.
Maybe we can get a group buy shipped downunder.  :aussie:

OK, I guess we'll just have to live with the old ones then.  :dunno:
Is that the p/no for the Metro ones or the Soffseal version ?

Totally agreed, Metro seal for 1970 works OK, but 71-up only good is Soffseal CH3017, no glue needed.

Greg,
I just pulled the trigger on the CH3017 soffseal units. I'll post a cross sectional pic when they arrive, hopefully they'll be a better fit.

Oh cool, that will be interesting and with both we can post up some good comparisons👍
I have to pull my engine out to fix the leaking Welsh plugs on the back of the block , pain in the ass. I'll do the head gaskets and valve stem seals as well just for good measure, head gaskets are leaking a little water under the headers.
