probably the voltage reg fo rthe dash , it pulses the current & limits it to 5 volts

If the guages ran real high and then quit you could have had a voltage limiter go out in the cluster.

i should actually re-phrase that... the speedo and the tach work just not properly (they are not accurate at all, speedo bounces around and the tach it will says 2,000 when its just idling) and the alt meter works but the gas, oil pressure, and temp guages do not work at all... if it is the voltage reg where is it located? and how do you test?

It has to be the voltage regulator. It connects to the 3 gauges that aren't working for you. It's located right on the back of the gauges. You'll see a wire coming from it, linking those 3 gauges together.

I think Standard has new ones should be available from any parts store
The Tach needs to send away to a guage repair compant to have it upgraded to new electronics to work correctly , the speedo may as well go to to be repaird but check the cable first to be sure it is not causing the bouncing , the inner speedo cable can be removed & lubricated
