Not a mopar question but here goes

Snapper 21" walk behind mower.  Briggs & Stratton engine.
It is supposed to start on 1st or 2nd pull.  It has no primer bulb.  It would always start as claimed on 1st pull. 


Now i have to pull it a dozen times for it to start or spray ether into carb.  It starts instantly after it is warmed up. 
Cold starts are the problem.   Glad this isn't my cuda acting up.  Suggestions are welcomed.

Good to see you around Larry  :wave: ..  Can't say much about your small engine, about all I've had to do to one in 25 years is change the oil, air filter & a new spark plug every now n then.
I found an old post suggesting that the primer circuit is part of the air filter box & a bad seal there can prevent self priming.. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/110-small-engine-repair-4-cycle/246929-briggs-stratton-6hp-hard-starter.html

Clean the carb in an ultrasound washer or something, I had that problem with my snowblower, same type of engine. I got a new carb, took it apart and the needle for the gas inlet was worn, try to order a new one but they would only sell the whole carb, so I got a new carb and it worked fine after that. Don't think that was the actual problem though, but it was something with the carb.

I have found that the spark plug is typically the culprit  (barring carb issues):   By  the way, carbs typically dont go south on mowers, UNLESS, old gas has been left to sit for awhile  (By the way, gas sours very quickly nowadays if no additive is used over long storage times> 

Mower carbs are so simple that a simple cleaning will clean up most carb issues

SO: Ditch any old gas and replace with new and get a new sparkplug:  Might cost 6 bucks total

I don't run ethanol in my small engines but I've still had issues recently.  I've had to rebuild the carbs on my mower, snow blower and line trimmer.  The small screens inside clog up.  It doesn't seem to matter if I leave them full or run them dry before storage.  On top of what has already been said, buy a can of brake clean, and spend a half hour taking the carb apart and cleaning all the passages.  They are very easy to work on.

Had same issue a year ago and went thru the carburetor cleaned every passage I could and blew thru everything. Put back on and it fired right up again.

Now a year later...
Same issue. Repeat repair multiple times and still would not run.

Bought another carb a month ago bolted it on and it fired up right away.

Too many plastic items and designs that prevent areas from being disassembled force them to be disposable.

Overall replacements are cheap enough.

Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

Tune up  new plug ,clean the air filter , cleaning the carb makes sense too

Installing a new champion spark plug cleared up the hard starting issues.  Two pulls on the cord and she fires right up.
Thanks for tips.  And of course it was one of the more obvious things to do that i over looked.
