Alternator Upgrade

Just got my 505 up and running but noticed that the 80 amp. alternator cannot keep up with the Contour fans that I have installed. I need a bigger alternator to keep the battery charged but after looking at the Mopar brand, there's has to be a cheaper alternative. GM maybe?

Common problem cooling fans eat a lot of power , add electric fuel pump & water pump & EFI & 120 amps is the starting point !
 I had a custom Ford alt built by a refurbisher & customized the mounting , it made 120 amps with the external regulater still used

I looked at those. Very nice alternators but I don't think the accountant (wife) would go for that.
When I do change this, I'm thinking I'm going to have to change the wire to a bigger gauge like a 8-10 gauge going to the battery. I already did the bulk head bypass so thats not an issue.

I run a Denso 90 amp alternator on my small block. The Denso 120 amp is the same configuration. Rock auto $95. Had to modify the adjuster bracket and change the pulley.

Naw.... portable welder!  :icon16:  One year while driving the 7 1/2 hour trip to Carlisle ( I only had 1 electric fan at the time, now I have 2) the 100amp alternator I was running couldn't keep up and left me stranded at a gas station about 1 1/2 from Carlisle. The battery was totally dead, I had to buy another one locally. I didn't want a repeat performance of that so I got the 250 amp 1 wire version. The old set up was fine for just running around locally as I'd put on the battery tender when not driving the car, but on a long trip is when the alternator showed it wouldn't keep up.

Just some old lamp cord I had laying around , why?  :dunno:  :clueless:

 :lol:  I mounted  my battery in the trunk, and used welding cable for the main line running from the battery to the engine compartment.
