A pillar hole spacing
« on: May 27, 2016 - 02:39:58 PM »
Am attempting to install a drivers side a pillar. I've discovered that it appears that holes at the hinge area are .5"-1" away from where they are supposed to be.  Can anyone measure these holes from the ground side/edge of the a pillar and let me know what the measurements look like?

If the a pillar goes under the firewall the .5-1" wrong is what I get. If I put the pillar on top of the firewall and under the cowl, they are dead on, but then I am pushed out .25-.5" from the cowl side, as the curved area on the a pillar is on the firewall edge instead of cowl area side panel.

If I remember correctly, the hole spacing changed at some point.  On my original 73 A-pillars, you can kind of see the spots where the holes used to be in the earlier years.  I wonder if you have the wrong year A-pillar trim?

Here are a couple threads that mention the different screw hole placement.  Some say 70 and 71 are the same   Others are saying that 70 is a one year only piece.  What year are you working on?

actually 4 different versions on the E body A pillar trims. 70 2 hole , 71-72 1 hole , 73 1 hole ,74 1 hole . the physical trims are the same, just hole locations have moved.

Thanks for all the replies guys I really appreciate the information.

Just to confirm I am talking about the a pillar body itself and where it is spot welded over the top door hinge area.
