Locking fuel cap on 70 Challenger
« on: May 28, 2016 - 09:00:26 AM »
Is it possible to install a locking fuel cap on a 1970 Challeger?

Right now I have the standard one which can be opened by anyone and I would like to install a locking one with minimum hassle. Is there a ready-made one to buy?

Yes, just go online to Advanced Auto or AutoZone, about $12.

There are two different filler tube designs in 70, federal (49 State) & ECS (California) depending on which filler you have determines which cap you need...    Pay attention to the depth where the lock tabs hit..

I saved these photos from an old post on Moparts by a friend Gary (Challenger 1) always a good guy...

Oh, if you really want to step up, theres the OE cap.....  When I bought mine I though I paid to much at around $50... Since then prices have risen some & most sell for around $600.....

I suppose I need to replace the neck, too?

No, you just look at the pictures & figure out which one you have.... And buy the cap that matches... If your neck looks like the one on the right buy the cap shown box & all part #35012 on the right....
