« on: June 02, 2016 - 09:47:30 PM »
Curious to hear experiences and see pictures of those that have welded and smoothed-in their rear valance on an ebody.

yes ,gives the car a more modern look. Unless you point it out no one notices.

You did say rear valence, right? Not the upper body panel? I'm into the body work on mine and did/will not weld in the rear valance, because the minute I do, I'll have to change a spring or exhaust component and that won't make me happy. Having said that, I DID weld in the upper body/quarter panel seams as shown. Every old E body seems to have a rotten trunk floor and most of the time it seems to come through those seams.

I have a spare one for my 74 that I will be welding up the spring perch openings. I moved the rear bumper in already.
Plan on also trying to slightly push it in in the middle by the licence plate. And... most likely I will weld in a filler strip to the top of it to hide the area that steps inward. Idea is to have the panel smoothly tuck up under the bumper.
Hopefully be able to get to it soon.

Mike.

:iagree: On a Challenger if you need to remove that gas tank or springs you would need to remove the valance.

On my barracuda, I have changed springs without removing the valance. Not ideal, but could be done.

I'm not following why the fuel tank requires removing the valance, is that challenger only?

As far as exhaust goes, I am expecting to use clamped on tips for adjustability/service.

I welded up the bumper guard slots but did not weld the panel to the quarter. Was afraid of issues with what the others are saying.

Right, I was thinking they were on the back. Easy enough fix however

My 74 Challenger has had the opening welded up for the bumper guards and still has the cutouts for the exhaust tips. Is cleaner and I would not weld the sides solid but I have seen it done. Here are a couple of pictures of mine.
