Custom shaker trim ring
« on: June 03, 2016 - 11:34:51 PM »
I really want to run a 1" spacer under my carb, I've already modified the baseplate to the point that my distributor cap is almost rubbing so I can't go lower with my baseplate.  The only thing I can think of is to somehow cut about 3/4" off the trim ring to allow the bubble to sit higher. Of course I'm not willing to do that because I have 0 talent in that area, just thought I'd post to get some ideas or if maybe someone has done this before.

I have the same problem with a friends 71 Cuda with a shaker and an Indy Hemi setup. I am thinking of dropping the K-member a half inch but that will put the valve covers into the shock towers. It would be easy with a wedge engine though. If you are running a stock fan shroud it wouldn't work either.

so why the 1" spacer ?
for heat you can run a Coolcarb spacer that is 1/8" thick , if it is for performance that is a different issue adding 1" is creating your own nightmare it seems .

It was an 8 horse gain on the dyno. I've been told it will help the efi with the vacuum signal as well

8hp not worth it IMHO.

Either go for looks or for all out performance if you need that.

Talk of dropping k-member, hacking trim rings...sounds all scary.

It seams to me if you drop your K-frame your pinion angle will change on the transmission, the tail shaft will point up more. :2cents:

My off the cuff calculating of angle change would be less than 1/3 degree change for a half inch drop.
This is a loose guess because I don't have an exact measurement distance between motor mounts and trans mount (the pivot point).
Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

It will also negatively effect the front end geometry....

There are lots of easier ways to gain 8 HP than what you are proposing.

Well I'm always interested in adding a few ponies, let's hear what tricks you got up your sleeve that I haven't already done.

I did this using Reflectix and also placed a piece of Refectix that's double thickness on top of the valley pan and it made a lot of difference with vapor locking.

just breathing through the shaker will cost you HP , 8 hp is not worth the hassle , if you want the power then a Trans Am hood would be better
