This was about 2-3 hours with the heat gun.



Thought it was going alright. The torch is faster though.  :2thumbs: Scotch brite and torch gets the residue left from the putty knife pretty well.

So now you'll get to the point where everything is getting clean and shiney.

Gotta make sure every nook and cranny is super clean after.

Wipe as best you can using Acetone or Laquer thinner.

Then drench it with a wax & grease remover pressure sprayer.
Follow up a blast of CDA and then after it with a tach cloth.

Seems a bit excessive.... If you are merely going to paint or undercoat the bottom again, I do not think you need this level of prep. Wipe it done with acetone is good, but after that I normally just paint or/coat it.

For my customer's cars, I get the heavy stuff off and let the media blasters do the rest.
I believe it's important to remove all this old stuff to find the rust hiding underneath.  :2cents:

Right and Left Full quarter panels are back ordered with an expected ship date of late August.
I would go with Alan's method if I had the quarters but Dylan's labor is free and I like the idea of the bottom being as clean as it can be which should translate to less time/money at the blaster?
I'm telling Dylan that the better he does cleaning the less we will spend on sand blasting. It's something he can do without supervision.
Not a lot of other stuff that I can ask him to do by himself at this point until we've done some of them together first, especially the things that neither of us have ever done...

Got the pressure washer sandblast attachment from Northern Tool. I bought 100# bag of mason sand but is has too much oversize material and kept clogging.
Screened the sand through a kitchen strainer and it worked much better but still not fine enough to prevent an occasional clog. Going to try some window screen next. Went through 50 lbs. of sand pretty fast.
Need to place a valve or maybe a smaller diameter hose to regulate the amount of sand since at times it flowed too fast. I did have the sand elevated and the hose attached at the bottom using gravity to help the flow. The blaster came with a long steel tube to stick into the media from the top and pull the media up into... maybe I'll try that first.
100# bag of mason sand was 6$
The Barracuda Rear Cargo Floor Panel
This took about 3$ of sand but I think I can slow the sand and still get good results. It flash rusts pretty fast but I didn't dry it or put any rust inhibitor on it either.
I set up on a tarp in the back yard and planned on letting the sand returning to the earth...
With some fine tuning I think it will be worth the $62 purchase.

If you blast inside the car, you will need spend a lot time cleaning it. My 52 PU was blasted, I have cleaned it out numerous times, turned the cab upside down, etc and it still leaking sand..

I used a Toro handheld Electric garden blower. After that, a long tip extension tip off the compressor hose.
Repeated the process 3 times and there's no signs of sand anywhere coming out.

You not only need pressure of air but lots of volume of air to get it all out.

Yup!
Leaf blower, shop vac and air compressor have all seen duty inside and out and haven't even been blasted yet.
Every time I rotate it more crap falls out of the nooks and crannies... I think the car makes more when I'm not looking...  :22yikes:
