Power Window
« on: June 11, 2016 - 12:51:49 PM »
I have problems with my power window motors, rear passenger is stuck and want go down, passenger side hardly moves, drivers side takes a half second both ways, rear driver side is close to dead, is there new ones to buy, repro aftermarket or whatever, need a set so I can fix the originals if it's possible.

I'm going to guess that you have a wiring issue. There is a member here (Crackedback?) that sells a relay kit with wiring harness which allegedly improves the window motor operation significantly.

I have read motors are intercheangeable with later years.

Found these at RockAuto, anyone know if they fit? If theres a need I will improve the harness and change relays if they are bad, my son is a electronic engineer I will try to get some help from him, OEM will be restored and put back in place but I need something during the restoration of these, and it's greate to have a spare.

I have now ordered four new motors from Rockauto, I will let you know how good they are, scheduled arriwal was 07/13.

I haven't used them but I've been told they fit & work well, look nothing like the original motors but no one sees them so who cares......  Relays are still a very worhwhile upgrade... ?Originally there were no relays, the whole load was carried by the switches.... Which is why your probably gonna find the window that is "stuck has a bad switch.... And the power & ground for all the windows passes through the master switch first so if a contact in the master gets burnt replacing the switch at the window will have no effect.....  Good switches are getting hard to find & spendy...

My suggestions.....
A) Send all four switches to Jim Slott (JS Restorations)
B) Buy Crackedback's relay kit, it's a bargain, the windows will work like they never worked before, the load will be removed from the switches saving your investment in restoring those... If a relay fails they will always be available & fairly cheap.....
C) As mentioned by Chryco Psyco  clean & lube everything...

I will do a new harness with relays, I did all new harness to my 57 T-bird so thats not a problem, I will just put these in during restoration of the old ones if they work I prefer OEM, thanks for all input I will keep this thread updated.
