Dropping engine with K Member

I need to remove my engine   I am thinking of dropping the engine with the K member vs the traditional from above

My exhaust and drive train are already removed

Besides the small stuff involved, I am thinking one of the major steps is removing the torsion bars and then the process is fairly self explanatory?

Could anyone tell me the major steps involved

Wow 
1] remove the wheels &  Brakes ,
2] remove the 2 bolts holding the lower ball joint to the spindle
3] remove steering column ,, remove the roll pin in the coupler ,& pull the colum up into the car
4] disconnect all wiring
5] remove rad & hoses for heater too
6] undo lower control arms bolts & pry rearward to push T bars out to the rear after removing the retainer clips for the T bars
7] I assume you have a cart to roll the k frame out ? set K frame on cart
8] undo all the trans crossmember & K frame bolts
9] If you have jack stands under the front spring eye you should be able to lift the body by yourself , use you legs to lift .have someone else block the body up & roll the assy out

Depending on what your intentions are...you could save some work by disconnecting the lower ball joint at the control arm and outer tie rod.
Leave the entire front brake system intact and hooked to the upper control arm.
Lift that assembly up and out of the way and tie it off to the braces coming off the upper cowl.

Doing it this way you're not even cracking a brake line :2cents:

If all you want is to access the motor. If you're restoring the whole car then you might as well take everything out. :22yikes:

Thanks for responding   

I have multiple issues/w/unknown causes with the engine, and it would so much easier if I removed the engine to look/do the repairs, the least of which is a leaking main seal

Great responses, easy to follow

Thank God I have a 2 post lift   

As far as a dolly goes for the k member/engine, I do have one but will have to fab some sort of lumber/cradle support on it so that the engine/tranny stays pretty much level / secure once its lowered upon

I agree with Alan but with one exception.

Since it will be all out it would be a great time to look at suspension parts and replace them if needed.

Mine came with a front sway bar and I had to remove it before dropping the kframe.
