Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner Hook-up
« on: June 13, 2016 - 12:22:51 PM »
Hi,
I've got 3 lines on my air cleaner and don't kow where all 3 lines hook up to.  I've got 1 larger line that hooks to the top of the valve cover and the two smaller lines (5/16?) that hook up to... where?

There is a diagram of the hook ups in the 1970 cuda manual and another in the cuda-challenger restoration guide. I will try to find it for you.

There are 2 circular valves on top of the snorkels they wrap around and plug into the bottom side and one goes to the carb from a small vacuum 3 way-fitting.

Actually the two round things on the snorkels aren't valves they are vacuum  actuators (sometimes called vacuum motors) they connect to flaps in the snorkels that close the air inlets off when vacuum is applied.... The vacuum comes from the carb, it's unproved (manifold) vacuum, it goes from the carb to a thermal switch in the air cleaner.... Below about 100 degrees it applies vacuum to the actuators which closes off the snorkels & opens the air door that draws from the heat stove around the left exhaust manifold..... Personally I put a BB in the vacuum hose where it plugs to the carburetor... There is not much good happening with hot air going down your carb.. Occasionally it has corrected a cold weather stumble but much more often it's caused all sorts of drivability issues...

Thank you all...  I couldn't imagine hooking up my air cleaner to my carb.   Apparently this is a thing.

I just can't wrap my head around why this is a good idea given that I have an electric choke.

Was all about faster warm up. More specific for cold weather areas.
Electric choke is for fuel enrichment.
Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

Use the duel snorkel it looks great you can black wrinkle it just block off the vac tube. Or put a 6 pack style with a modified base. I have seen them out there.

Hot damn that is clean as it gets under there!   I love the plastic ties you have on the walls.   What are those and where do you get them?  I'll take a few shots of mine tonight.
