sail panels

Got some new sail panels for my 71 cuda and like most after market parts they just don't bolt on without some persuasion. So tried one side and spring clip wouldn't line up and the cardboard material that holds the clip came off. Piece of s**t. Got the panels through Roseville and they are made by r.e.m. Are there better panels out there. These panels are flat and need to be rounded to match the contour of the roof.

Same problem I went thru.

I found a place online from Washington state. They came pre curved with the material already on.
I just can't remember their name right now.

Hopefully this clue might jog somebody's memory on this place.

I glued the metal clip plate from the old one to the new ones I got years ago from year one.  Those had no provision what so ever for the clip.

My headliner guy doesn't bother with those clips at all.

I ordered the premium kit from Legendary, my headliner guy, had no problems with the headliner it was great. Also ordered the pre made sail panels....not worth the card board they are made of. My guy made new ones came out good. But not close to my survivor. At Spring fling in CALIF I found a set, just waiting for the matching material from Legendary. Maybe the guy doing the Gran Coupe/ SE headliners could make some accuarate reproductions???

No glue, just fits them properly and relies on the coat hook and trim to secure them.
First picture is the original head liner....
Second is the new legendary stuff properly installed by my upholstery guy.

So the coathook and the rear window trim pull it in along with the lower tab.

Hmm took me forever to get this to look right and I'm not doing it again!!!

My solution was to find thicker stock, epoxy it to the rear and then put the clip in. Worked a charm.

Well Alans suggestion worked. No clips and it looks much better than my originals. The trim and coat hanger hold it in place and  you use the interior panel to hold a curve in it.

Alan, I've long considered that would be the best method where reinstalling those sail panels is a concern.

I recovered mine with a heavy contact paper (vinyl really). Worked great.
