Opinion on the new Challenger?
« on: June 16, 2016 - 12:53:21 AM »
I'm curious to see what you other car guys, especially the older ones, think of the new Challenger and how it compares to the old one purely in terms of looks. I think the new one looks pretty good, but I just can't decide if it's a little too fat or not, especially in the rear end. Not that I'm basing my opinion off on what you all think, but what's your take on it? I should also mention that I really only like the 2015 and 2016 Challengers, didn't really care for the 2009-2014 models.

I had a '70, I've now owned an '09, 13, and now a 2016 Challenger. The size from a 1970 to this modern Challenger is definitely a change. More room inside, but it handles surprisingly well. I really like the grill on the 2015+. The options are also quite nice if you are into creature comforts. If you are into modifications, the aftermarket has you covered. As a disclaimer, I'll be 54 in another month or so. I totally am in love with my 2016.

The new ones definately turn my head every time I see one, whether it's parked or driving by.

The hood scoops are right in the money. Appearance wise it screams Mopar to me.

I saw one with big phat tires on the rear and it was epic. The badging on it said it was 'the punisher'

Don't ever dump that 'Cuda, the '71 was the best year (IMO) and you always gotta have a classic to go with the modern

I have a 73 Cuda and a 16 Challenger. The old ones definitely look better, and the new car is bigger in every dimension. But the new Challenger is more loyal to its ancestors lines than the Camaro or the Mustang.

Performance, dependability, and I like how the original front and side lines are carried over, but the back is a wall - to me. Each one I see in person gives me an idea of how each color might change my perception.

Last week I came across a recent Challenger in the darker red (Redline Red Tri-Coat Pearl) and had one of those wow moments :ylsuper: I think it's dark enough to still see the original lines come through, yet just light enough combined with the black splash and tail light areas to bring things into proportion. It was a real Joe Walsh-Turn To-Stone-double-neck-SG moment for me :ylsuper: :cooldancing: :ylsuper:

It seemed a bit darker in person but this will give you an idea>  http://www.dodge.com/en/challenger/exterior/

Of course if you're secretly going for the Vanishing Point look... :burnout: :)

I'm honestly torn between that dark red, the granite metallic grey, the white, black, and maybe the lighter silver. I know grey cars are harder to see on the road and are more likely to get in an accident but oh my God those colors look good on the 2015-2016's. The Challenger is the only muscle car I've seen where the color white really works for it very well, and it's always cool to hark back to Vanishing Point, even though 99% of people won't get it. And the red looks very handsome but statistically it's the color of car that gets pulled over most often and in that kind of vehicle I don't think I want to draw attention to myself like that :P. The black is pretty handsome but it's not my absolute favorite, and I live in Florida. A black car with a black leather interior is going to get hotter than hell. I'm not a fan of B5 blue, and although I sort of like sublime, I just think it's a little too much. Decisions decisions...

This will be an interesting thread to watch.   :grinyes:

So, I was ordering my Plumb-crazy car last October. Plumb-crazy with a white interior has always been my dream car.  When out the window was a Redline red Challenger. I'm sitting there thinking am I blowing this?

As you can tell, it isn't an easy decision. Both grays look awesome with black stripes. My heart is with Redline red, but I have this that I haven't regretted for a minute.

We have a metallic white. It looks great, and after being on the Power Tour, I think it is a rare color. We had the only Challenger there that color. There were lots of challengers of every other color.

I really really love the dark grey, I think it's my favorite color. I just worry about the visibility for other drivers. I like the white, with some R/T stripes and black Hellcat wheels I think it'd look pretty badass. I don't think I'll go for the red, it just draws too much attention from law enforcement, lol. The metallic silver looks very handsome too and it's more visible than the dark grey. I don't think I'll go with black for the reasons I mentioned above.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to get this car for a good while, at least 1.5-2 years. Need to build up some money, unless by some miracle I win the Road to College giveaway I entered (done by the same people who gave away the Hellcat X) and I sell or trade in the 2016 Mini Cooper that comes with it.

Seeing as you said purely in terms of looks, the new Challengers look good. But when you put them next to a classic Challenger, they look very, very fat.
