Is that the front and back of the same piece of paper?  E55 is the code for the 340 engine.

That paper was obviously placed there before the car was painted.(since it has blue paint on it)  My guess is it was placed there during the body construction to designate it as a 340 car.  Maybe the 340 required a body modification and they needed to be able to tell the cars apart at a quick glance.

There were both in mine. The data processing card and the 8"X11" card. Two of the codes that I recognized were the TX9 for black paint and the E58 for the 4bbl 360. They were also taped to the roof under the headliner. Just ways for the boozers who built my car to try to get at least the options load right.  :grinno:

It's also called a punch card, my Dad used to bring them home all the time.

Basically the card is punched as to tell the computer what function you wanted it to perform.

That was my first thought as well but the card in question doesn't have any punches out of it.  I've got two cards like that from my Challenger.  It looks like this particular card was used to quickly identify a 340 car however.

In the picture you show, the punches are shown by the square holes in it.

Yes, I realize that.  I was saying that the OP's card doesn't have any punches in it.

It looks like someone used a blank card as note paper.
