70 -71 side mirror interchangable?

would all the internals from a "bullet, sport" 70 mirror fit a 71 "bullet, sport" mirror, I believe everything is the same with the exception of the longer base on a 71.
correct?
glass same size and shape?

also can the cables, at the remote end, be removed, and reinstalled?

Shape of the mirror glass is totally different which may affect the internals

I have removed the cables before on originals to have the heads and bases rechromed on restorations but you have to be carefull spreading the white metal crimps that hold them in and sometimes when you bend them back they break. If you are working with a repo i would not attempt it.
