Prostate Cancer
« on: June 16, 2016 - 07:42:33 PM »
Hey, went to doc, and he said they no longer do the finger up the wazoo, or the PSA test
to determine prostate cancer. Said there is supposed to be a new kinda test sometime in future.
So, how do you know in the mean time??

Just a suggestion but, simply remove the words, "no longer" from your first sentence and it becomes, the answer to your question!  :2thumbs:

I've heard the same news for some time now and I suppose it'll take awhile before whatever the new diagnostic becomes mainstream. Very typical for nearly every new pharmaceutical and/or procedure and it never ceases to amaze me how deciding to inve$t HEAVILY into healthcare and bio-tech stocks over 20 years ago just keeps giving and giving!!!!  :money:

Yeah, I've heard that they are supposed to have a new test for over five years but have yet to hear of anyone actually having it performed on them.  That said, when I go to the doctor I request a PSA test when they run my blood test.  Until they get the new test out in the field and the bugs worked out this is the best indicator available and lots of people walking around today that might not have been had there been no PSA test.

Just my  :2cents:

They also do not do the biopsy of the prostate if the PSA is high.
It causes infections and other damage.
Until they come up with a better test insist on the PSA.

Well at least one person is keeping this thread clinical and to the point.

To do a biopsy of the prostate the doc inserted a tube in the anus and a needle like instrument  into the wall to the prostate
They collected 3 to 5 samples from the prostate.
Turns out this precedure caused infection and other problems.

I remember we were all lined up in the Navy, and going behind a curtain to see a doctor.
He says pull your pants down and turnaruond and bend over.
Agghhh! Was not expecting that at all!
I let out a good scream!
Of course, he had already done about 300, so I suspect
he was not interested in being gentle!
