Hey guys, I sent the pictures & info to Borgeson about the angle and this was their reply:

"That looks just fine. The steering box is at a different angle than the stock steering box because the offset between the input shaft and pitman shaft is much smaller than the larger original type boxes. To accommodate this smaller offset the box is intentionally angled slightly. The coupler you are using can accommodate as much as a 35 degree angle and what you have pictured  is nowhere near that".

I comforted by that and will forge ahead with reassembly now. The engine pulleys from March are fitted and she is almost ready to go in. I went for black and I'm not that into shiny. I was going to paint the heads and manifold Hemi Oragnge and go stock rocker covers for a sleeper look but I got talked out of it. Not sure it was the right way to go but I can always change it later.

I got me engine back from the shop and today and i have a mount problem.

I removed these mounts off a 340 block and I built a MP 340 new block. Everything is supposed to bolt straight back on.

The passenger side bolts up just fine. The drivers side is no 1/2 out and doesn't look like it will mount up, not with out some large shims.

Can anyone shed some light on why its different and what to do? Are there more than one mount for a 340 block?

Thanks

Have your tried putting the mount on the outside of the ears? I remember going through this with my 340 and was scratching my head but ended up figuring it out. I believe all of the SB mounts (318, 340 and 360) are interchangeable.

Hmm... I got told today that the MP 340 block uses a 318 mount, and that the 318 mount is different than the 340/360 mount. I could use a shim, but prefer not to if avoidable.

Yes there is a difference from 318 to 360. I have no knowledge on 340s. Suspicion is relocation was necessitated by larger piston bore.
Corrected mine with a spacer to reach the back flange. Because bracket was too wide. For you going the other way I believe you will need a correct 318 bracket. Spacers on the front mount will be incorrect for engine alignment.
Or cut bracket rear mount, relocate and weld in a patch to fill gap. I would suspect 318 brackets are cheap and easily attained.
Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

Thanks Thumper. I'm sure they are readily available in the USA!

I am in Australia and the amount of times I have to order parts, get raped with postage (and customs charges), then get the wrong part, then its 4 weeks later and I have to repeat it all again  :banghead:

E body parts are not readily available here and I have to import virtually all parts I need, so I try and get it right the first time.

Craig - have you tried reaching out to someone like Herbs or Mancini? I have no idea about the MP 340, I would have thought it would be the same as any 340 which I "thought" was the same as a 318 and 360.

Understood on shipping costs. As noted plan B is to cut or split body and weld in the extension that extends the ear spacing.

I was incorrect in replying to your other post.  You can use a 318 mount on a stock 340/360 by making a spacer but you can't use a 340/360 mount on a 318.  I found the thread on Moparts I was referring to in the other post.  For some reason, MP put the 318 mounting bosses on the 340 resto block.  I hope you can find out the correct mount by reading this thread.  The Moparts board has changed software since the pictures were posted in the thread.  They don't show up on their own any more.  I think you can click on them and still open them though.(click the link and then click "open".  You might have to click "retry" after that...then they should open up)

318/340/360 passengers side brackets are the same.  It's the drivers side that changed.  318 brackets are wider then 340/360.  No idea why, but they are.

Yep, I ordered a set of Polylock mounts  from Mancini for a 340 and asked if they knew if they were different for the MP block BEFORE they shipped them. That was 3 days and 3 e-mails ago. So far nothing... Our time difference also means I usually lose a day with communication too as we are on opposite sides of the planet. Thanks for the tip

Thanks Burdar - that's very helpful info. I will now change my order to 318 mounts - and hope for the best!

Here is my next challenge. So while I'm waiting on mounts, and with the engine sitting next to the car I looked at the Milodon pan, looked at the K Member, looked at the pan.... and started measuring...

This ain't gonna fit I thought. I asked QA1 if this pan would fit (should have done that a long time ago) and I got this back - "I have worked with a couple customers that have used the road race pan on the E-body. There is a slight interference just below the steering box, see the attached photo. I am not sure how this gentleman when about getting clearance here, but it gives you a good idea of what may be needed."

One of them is going to need to be chopped  :scared: . Which one would you cut?

From Michael at Schumacher  "Yes, I am familiar with the MP 340 resto block issue. It requires a 318 LH bracket in order to fit correctly. I don't have any real reason why they do this but a lot of my customers are pissed. The part number is BCEA". There you go, mystery solved.

Well that rots! Tough call.... Easier to cut the k-frame with the engine assembled already?
