Speedhut gauge wiring help
« on: June 16, 2016 - 09:54:46 PM »
Getting ready to install speedhut gauges in my 73 challenger with standard dash. Here's the wiring diagram I drew up, tell me what's wrong as I'm sure something is...

I'm not sure why the volt gauge would need four wires off of it. It should just be switched 12v, ground and lighting.

What is the "fuel sender" ground wire doing for you? Are you using a factory sending unit?

The grey wire for lighting, the "speedhut lighting dial" does what? I assume if it's some form of dimmer it would need to go before [in series] all of the other light circuits and not in parallel to the circuit. But that's a guess, i'm not familiar with it.

Does the speedo need constant power for keeping settings?

I'm not sure why the volt gauge would need four wires off of it. It should just be switched 12v, ground and lighting.

- a red wire is 12v keyed ignition for main gauge power, black is ground, white is 12v dash lighting for the needle lighting, yellow is listed as the 12v power source. Fwiw, all the speedhut gauges I got have the red, white and black wires. They supplied a 'harness' that connects all these wires together for all the gauges.

What is the "fuel sender" ground wire doing for you? Are you using a factory sending unit?

-yes, factory sending unit. Am I grounding this properly?

The grey wire for lighting, the "speedhut lighting dial" does what? I assume if it's some form of dimmer it would need to go before [in series] all of the other light circuits and not in parallel to the circuit. But that's a guess, i'm not familiar with it.

- speedhut provided their own dimmer switch which I'm guessing will take place of the stock dimmer switch? So I. terms of wiring, do I take the orange input wire to the stock dimmer end hook that up to the grey speedhut dimmer. Then separately, the gauge lighting wires into the orange output to the stock gauges?

Does the speedo need constant power for keeping settings?
-that and to help the speedo acquire a gps signal faster. With it, speedhut claims it will almost instantaneously have a signal, without it, may take up to 2 minutes.

I presume you are. The sending unit needs to have a good chassis ground.

I would need to see their diagram for that component to address the question.
