1970 Challenger R/T grille....black or argent?
« on: June 16, 2016 - 11:00:29 PM »
Guys,
Got a question:  I know that all the old Challengers I see have the matt black grille....but, I also know that the argent silver is a flaming pain to find, to paint and to maintain.
I have been able to lay my hands on an argent silver grille AND the argent silver rear panel (above the taillights)...I THINK they go to an R/T, but not sure....can someone tell me what models the argent silver goes with.  Thanks in advance!
kk

Black for RT, TA and RT / SE .  Argent for non RT and SE models.  If repainting, the argent and RT have one rib different in the placement of the tape line.  RT shows 2 ribs of polished area and argent only have one rib showing.

I've never asked about this, but why do people refer to that as the grille? To me that is at best the grille surround, and the eggcrate part is actually the grille.

I know that's not what people call it, but it just seems wrong to me.

As far as the argent rear panel goes, that was on SE models only.  T/A's had a black tail panel.  Everything else had a body colored tail.

Can you tell us more about the car?  How long have you had it?  Do you have some detailed close up photos you mind sharing?  I love seeing unrestored original cars!

Third owner. 45k miles. Had the car for almost 4 years. Added TA spoiler. Front spoilers are original to the car. Passenger side window and windshield were replaced by po. All other glass and chrome are original to the car.

Thanks. I remember back in the day there would be numerous dealer installed options if that's what it took to sell the car. They would change wheels & tires, change radios, add mirrors, install or remove graphics to sell the cars. I had them do that when I was buying a car back then.
