Not sure what this black plug is supposed to plug into? The green wire has been cut, and there's a green wire coming out of the wire loom below the ballast that's been cut, should those two ends be connected? Also what does the smaller plug below it with the brown and grey wire hook to?

Here is the menagerie of wires. The long blue wire has been added to, and one end is hooked to the + side of the coil and the other end goes to a small plug that's unhooked by the ballast. I have another picture showing that below.

At this point I'd get a new engine wiring harness, and possibly a Forward light harness.

I'd hate to try and figure out what somewhat else did and waste time.

I have a spare front and rear factory light harness, but at this time I cant afford to buy a new engine bay harness or trust me I would.

What do these two plugs hook to. This one plug is where the other end of the blue wire goes to, and it looks like someone spliced the two brown wires into the black wire? Not sure what to do about that? There is also a blue wire going to the other white plug but it comes out of the wiring loom.

I attached the black wire from the pertronix to the -side of the coil, just not sure where to attach the red wire to. Also what is the little round thing below the Dist? The wire from it is attached to the + side of the coil.

This yellow wire from the Alt has also been spliced into and the other end isn't attached to anything. Where should it hook up to?

One of the wires on this plug is broken, what is this plug for?

Lastly, this small plug is over by the bulkhead and is unplugged as well. What is it for and where should it plug into?

I'm not planning on driving the car, I just want to know where these things are supposed to hook to and what they are. The car ran when I bought it, but after adding the Pertronix to the Dist I want to start it again. I don't want to do so if things arent hooked up correctly and in this case theyre not. I keep the battery disconnected because I don't want the car or my shop to burn down. I plan on buying a new engine bay and dash harness but right now I cant afford to. Plus I would also like to know where things are supposed to hook to for when I get the new harness. Thanks for any info you can give.

First of all, it looks like your 73 is painted JA5, Silver Frost metallic.  I found a broadcast sheet for a JA5 73 Cuda 340 in my Challenger when I pulled the back seat.  If you want to PM me your VIN, I'll check and see if the sheet I have is yours.

Some of the confusion is that you are missing half of the main engine harness.  The harness is two pieces.  One half of the harness comes out of the bulkhead and attaches to the firewall.  The other half of the harness attaches to the engine itself.  The large black plug you are holding is where the two engine harnesses connect.  You can see in my pictures that the large harness connector plugs in at the back of the valve cover.  The harness runs across the PS valve cover and to the accessories.

The dark blue wire(keyed power wire) goes to the choke thermostat controller, purple wire to the temp sending unit, light blue and green wires go to alternator.  The brown wire goes to the electric windshield washer pump.  If your car has a manual foot pump for the washers, the brown wire was just wrapped up and held by a bracket on the alternator.

The smaller plug connects to the main engine harness that attaches to the ps valve cover.  It's the same style of connector that attaches to the distributor so it's probably for that.

That one doesn't connect to anything.  It's not connected on my car either.  It might have been a test port to test the harness at the factory.

Do the Pertronix instructions say to attach the red wire to a "keyed" ignition source?  If so, you need to connect it to a dark blue wire.  The blue wire has power in the "run" position only.  The canister attached to the coil is a condenser used to reduce interference in the radio.

The white plug goes to one side of the ballast resistor.  Originally your car came with a 4 prong ballast.  You have a 2 prong ballast installed now.  The 4 prong ballast uses that special plug with the plastic pin on it so the wires can't be installed backwards.

I've got my original engine harness.  It might be useful for me to just take pictures of it so you can see what it should look like and how all the wires connect.

Thanks Burdar, that clears some things up. Looks like I'll be saving up for a complete harness! :money:  I cant thank you enough!
So if my car came with a dual ballast what connect to the other side of the ballast opposite of the white plug? My car is JA5 silver frost. Not sure if its really safe putting my VIN on here??? I was a little uncomfortable putting the fender tag pic.

The plug on the right with the nub looks like the plug that connects to the 4 pin ballast resistor, the nub fits into a notch in the ballast resistor, you have a 2 pin ballast resistor there now.

You guys have been a great help. I'm gonna go buy a new dual ballast for starters so I can see if I can get it started back. I did some wire testing today to find which wires are hot when the ignition is in the run position. Does anyone know if I still use the ECU and voltage regulator with the Pertronix 1381A? I'm also going to buy an engine bay wiring harness from Year One. Is was thinking they were $500 but it's the dash harness that's $500.

These attach to the ballast resistor , the double brown is one end & the bkue feed is the other it is just that the bkue feed is for a dual ballast & you have a single on the firewall so the RECU has to be a 4 pin unit but I think you said you were not using the ECU at all so that will work to feed the coil
