Jay Leno Crash
« on: June 27, 2016 - 01:33:58 AM »
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

His jaw kept him from getting whiplash.

Seriously,  that was terrifying.  I was afraid that an arm would fly out the window and get crushed.

I'd be willing to bet that Jay took the car back to his shop and fixed it. Most likely for free.

Agreed, I was amazed he was able to keep his arm inside.
Only 2 crashes in 50 years is irrelevant. 80 year old driver is the issue. Look forward to Jay no longer pushing the envelope as we have been able to enjoy.

The car is getting a completely new body.  The owner already purchased a replacement.  The car that was wrecked(shell) was an original 383 4-speed car.

Seems obvious that a drag car wouldn't do well on a banked turn let alone a regular turn.

That was a bad turn he did, and the weight of the Hemi, sitting pretty high in the back didn't help...

And maybe 250+ pounds of Leno in the seat did not help?

Who knows how old the slicks were also.
Hard edge to the sidewall probably just dug in and role over.
Wouldn't think you could get a proper set of slicks with the right load rating required because of engine location.

Hi i donot think that the driver was the reason for the crash .  The only thing ya bad turn and so on . But that stunt should be at the drag strip only .

I actually disagree , the driver seemed to be the reason for the crash it seemed he had more room to go straight or soften the turn or even steer out of the roll & hit a wall would be preferable , he was also very close the barriers with the wheels up .
OK I am wrong he was counter steering as it flipped so it it was not driver error  :2thumbs:
I do agree it was the wrong place to do it though , obviously the car is relatively safe in a straight line if it has only crashed once in 50 years so the best choice is do it on a drag track
