« on: June 27, 2016 - 12:47:54 PM »
This looks like a very nice car coming up for auction at Mecum in Denver on 7/8.  I believe these were only made for Mexico.  Any one have more infor on them?

I'm probably wrong, :banghead: but I've seen a lot of Valiant based cars manufactured for "other" countries then North America. All of those cars share the body lines for the most part, but the grills, lights etc....are usually quite different.

This Duster looks like any other Duster with some ugly stripes on it.....

Again....I don't claim to know anything about odd ball A Bodies....

I went to Mecum on Friday and while it was a lot of fun for my first time (scored a $10 ticket instead of paying the full $30 entry fee) there was nothing there overly impressive.  Maybe its me but it seems the big hype of Mecum (and BJ and R&S) may be declining.  Although Mecum sold 402 of the 611 (66%) of the vehicles for over $11M.  The top sellers were a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL R-Code car with 427-ci engine for $155,000, a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split-Window for $140,000 and a 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo at $80,000.  So nothing crazy like other auctions but still $11M total.  BTW, this '71 Valiant sold for $25,500.

That's a nice looking car for $25k. Somebody ate most of the restoration costs.

Agree with Alan on this. There are a lot of odd ball A bodies from other places in the world that adopted more mainstream names and then change trim. This one just looks like a 70 Duster with Mexican Super Bee stripes. Only the vin would denote that specifically, and they don't show any pictures of that. Oh, and whats with the little GTO look-a-like badge on the fender?
