I would stay away from Alum
You are better of with Iron or Prw stainless & yeah the prie has gone up on Prw stuff

So is the consensus that aluminum roller rocker assemblies from 440 Source (or others) are not good for this application?

Received my PRW SS rockers last week.  So far I'm very impressed with the fit and finish.  I checked over the rocker roller tips and didn't see any of the issues some others have commented on.  My only complaint is that their instructions are somewhat lacking and therefore I started another thread asking CP and others a couple of questions regarding set up.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda.  Matching numbers 440 U Code, 4 speed pistol grip, Rallye dash, AM 8 Track, Shaker hood, 15 inch rallye wheels, Dana 60 4.10, Super Track Pak.  One of 134 - 440 "U" coupes codes built in 1970 and one of 100 - 440 Super Track Paks built in 1970.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Will Alum work ? Yes
Are there good Alum rockers ? Yes
Are all Alum rockers equal ? Nope
For street use I stay away from Alum  I have seen them live no problem , but where I lived Summer averaged approx 5 days so very few engines saw a lot of regular miles .
T&D make serious alum rockers but I bet they use a far better alum alloy & cost 3x as much typically Starting around $1000 for a set .
For street I use Iron or Stainless , just my preference . They seem to be the most cost effective for reliable long life
