My 440/512 Build

Hi folks, documenting my 440/512 build here and hoping to get help on many questions I have (my first full motor build!).  Here's the block I'm starting with for what it's worth.  It's at standard bore, tanked and fluxed at this point to ensure it's a good block to start.  No machine work yet.

The motor is going into a 73 cuda (build thread here - http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=96878.0).  The transmission is a new TKO600, and 8 3/4 489 rear-end with new internals from Dr. Diff including Eaton tru-trac posi and 3.55 gears.

Intended use of the car is street, little strip.  Aiming for 550HP and around 600ft lbs in torque.  Want that classic mopar rumble at idle.

Does anyone know if that 6QT hemi Oil pan will fit in my cuda?  (note:  I'm using new schumacher mounts, "B,C,E-Body V8 to B/RB Swap or Replacement Kit"

What do you think about the cam that 440source has suggested?  Looks like many people here have gone Lunati.

Will mopar performance valve covers fit with roller rockers? (e.g. https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/dcc-5007614/overview/)

Can you get their kit without the heads?  I like the TrickFlow heads better.  Maybe a little more aggressive cam?

I second the more aggressive cam comment, possibly a roller if you can afford it. The comp one there is probably the smallest that you would want to go on an engine of that size.
The trick flow heads are bigger, so for the bigger engine it will let it breath better (212CC vs TF's 240) the stealth has an 80CC combustion chamber and the TF has a 78 so it will bump your compression a bit too. TF's also have the heart shaped combustion chamber which if I remember correctly help with the quench.

but this is all IMO only.... I am sure there are more knowledgeable guys in here to help you out.

As I have suggested , you can get more lift with similar duration or similar lift with less duration & a wider power band using a VooDoo cam
I typically use Custom flat tappet solids with similar specs to street rollers without the cost of a roller cam .
 You can do much better .

i'm currently in the process of building the same engine for my '70 'Cuda.  Also running the 440 source 512 stroker, .30 over. However, I'm using the Pro-Maxx (formerly Patriot Heads) aluminum heads (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pmx-9440/overview/make/chrysler) and a Lunati 704 Hydralulic cam and lifters (http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx? id=2338&gid=362).  Edelbrock Performer Intake (Shaker hood so I can't run a taller intake) and Quick Fuel 880 CFM carb.  Do a google and you tube search on the Pro-Maxx heads, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxLnEID_Xfc) and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality vs price.  I took them to my machine shop to have them checked over and my engine builder was VERY impressed with the quality.  Still debating on my rocker arm set up as I've had several people chime in against aluminum rockers, especially with needle bearings. I've looked at those pro-maxx heads, for the price they seems to be unbeatable. Haven't heard any real world into on them yet.

this is a great help!  thank you!  Those promax heads sound impressive.    What drove you to the quick fuel carb?

let me know what you decide for rockers ... What valve covers will you be using?

Hey Chryco, what voodoo cam would you recommend based on what i'm trying to achieve / the rest of my drivetrain set up?

When I was considering buying a crate engine some of the the dealers used Quick Fuel carbs. I did some research on them and they seemed like a good carb right out of the box and easy to tune if needed.  I'm haven't bought them yet but I'm seriously considering 440 Source Cast Aluminum valve covers or something similar. http://store.440source.com/Valve-Covers-Fabricated-Aluminum-pair-USA-MADE/productinfo/200-1052/  I've decided on PRW 3244011 1.5 ratio rockers based on recommendations from Chryco and 1 Wild RT.

I'm running pro-Max heads on my 512. Cnc'd at 335 cfm. 6 pack. Solid flat tappet 259/264 @0.50. 11/1 compression. All I can say is the thing is a monster. Pulls like a freight train. I trounced a GT 500 (2008) mustang with it a few nights ago. I don't know how it would fair up to a newer one with the 662 hp? My buddy has a 70 Monte with a fuel injected 555 Eldebrock with supposedly 700hp and I pull him in every gear as well mind you he has some pretty tall gears compared to my 410s. I'm happy with it. It dynoed at 622 hp and I took it up from 81 jets on the end carbs to 88s and 90s after installing a wide band. I have scared my self with it too loosing traction in second and a few times going into third!! I have to get some rubber under this thing for next year.
