Carlisle screamin deals
« on: July 05, 2016 - 03:17:52 PM »

Since I won't be able to attend I thought I'd start a thread where folks who attend Carlisle can post some screamin deals they see while going thru the swap meet section.

Just a pic and short description for all those who would love to see more mopar parts than are available in their part of the US.

To be honest, I am not convinced there are any "screaming deals" anymore at Carlisle.

i have been told the BEST deals are on Thursday morning....and that there are vendors who swoop through, snap those up and resell at higher prices.   Sort of ticks me off....seems greasy to do that IMHO.

And while ere are many vendors there, I havent personally experienced any "wow! could have never got it that cheap via the web!" scenarios....

<I feel like its more of a convenience/cool shopping opportunity sort of thing.....and you can get small items with no extra shipping.....

But if someone finds amazing deals I too would love to see them.... maybe I can get something this year and say "this wasan AMZING deal!"  Like a stroker small block, all built and ready to go for a couple hundred bucks...

I'd love to see even hard parts to find even if it's not a screaming deal.

Post them up folks!!!  :woohoo:

I dont have a problem with the folks who get there early and get great deals for themselves.

What ticks me off are the louses who get there early to get the great deals only to turn around and try to resell at a much higher price at the same event.

Yeah, capitalism at its best etc etc but its why the prices on EVERYTHING are driven up ...artificial inflation.

SO to those who get there tuesday to scarf up all the great deals just to flip them when the rest of us get there, insert the middle finger emoticon here. :swear:

I know a guy that goes there just to do that....He buys as early and as cheap as possible, then sells for a profit.....quick way to earn some cash....Until Sunday morning when he has to practically give the stuff away because he doesn't want to take it home.

There is a gamble I would not want to do.  I learned long ago that I am not a lucky person and that would certainly be my scenario . . .

I picked up a deal on a Sunday 3 years back that I am pretty sure was a similarge situation....laughed my butt off thinking that it was...lol

I just think it ruins it for all and drives up the cost of the hobby I love.

Once in awhile you do get some great deals but for me the attraction is hands on on the parts to actually see what your buying ( we have all been burnt before)  and also avoiding shipping costs.

My first year at Carlisle was 2004. I remember finding front turn signal lenses for my 70 Challenger in mint condition. $15 each.

Then a few years later, E-Bay hit it's stride, and everyone started to think they were selling gold at Carlisle because someone bought the same item on E-Bay for X amount.

Maybe you can still find deals, but they are as scarce as hens teeth.   :icon16:

I ended up finding the rear window trim for my 1964 Polara 500 for $100

Also scored a 1972 340 Air cleaner assembly in really nice shape for $50

Other than that - I was fairly let down by the show -  the Flings out in CA seem to have a lot more energy

I bought two brand new OER rally dash clocks from two different LARGE name vendors at the show.

The first one was $370.00. ???
The second one I came across a few hours later was $249.00. :22yikes:

The exact same same in the exact same box etc.... :pullinghair:

I went back to the first vendor because I have an account with them and spend thousands of dollars with each year with them and asked for an explanation... :dunno:

I was told that OER just had a huge price increase on their Mopar parts and that's the new price which I did confirm once I got home and back on the internet. :swear:

SO......if you're looking to buy OER dash parts, you might want to find someone with old stock.  :chatting:

I guess i can share this, took a break from Carlisle this year and drove my Chevelle to Maple Grove Raceway for the Super Chevy Show.

I know, I know......................

walking the swap meet, I found a very nice '73 440 Thermoquad with the strip kit for $20. Chevy guys just give away the Mopar parts.

I found a bunch of parts for my buddys 68 Charger project. I bought a few things for the Challenger, not " deals" per say, just saved on shipping.  I found the show a little smaller , cars and parts wise. Just miss the big commercial vendors.  :sadwavey:
I think the PA State tax thing has had a negative effect on the show parts wise.  :(
