4 Speed Linkage Setup

So I got my brand new 4 speed from Passon, awesome people to deal with and great product. I received brand new hurst shifter mechanism and rods. I set the operating levers on the trans in neutral, set the levers on the shifter mechanism in neutral then adjusted all the linkages to fit and installed. Should I be able to run through the gears easily at the shifter at this point?

Now at this time, I do not have my z bar/clutch hooked up. I'm asking because there is a lot of resistance at the shifter and I'm concerned if I hooked everything up correctly or not. I'm hoping that once that clutch is installed and engaged, it will allow the gears to free up?

Can you post a pic of how you have the rods connected?

I'll take a picture of the linkage in the car tonight to make sure, but this is how it is connected at the shifter mechanism and the reference photo I used for the rest...based on your response, I'm guessing something sounds wrong?

Ah crap, from other reference photos looks like I have 1st and 2nd rod in from the wrong side at the shifter mechanism. Does that sound right? It's hard to make out in the reference photos.

That is possible, but hard to tell without a pic of it installed.  I had my rods messed up and the same result of hard to shift at all.  I looked them up, switched to the correct locations and it was easy to shift so my be is you have them connected wrong.

Can you post some pictures of how yours are setup both at the trans and the shifter mechanism? I can't seem to find any great reference photos, specifically at the shifter mechanism.

With everything new & tight it can be difficult to shift but ti should shift smoothly \  depress the clutch will help

Mine is a b-body 833 in my '68 Charger so the rods are different. Hope this helps.

looks correct to me. line up holes in levers on shifter with a drill. all in neutral. should be able to shift thru the gears while on bench. could be smooth or not. just depends on the trans and shifter.

Should shift without a problem, yes a little stiff but shiftable.

Ok so the 1st and 2nd rod at the shifter mechanism, is the rod end inserted from the driver side, and clip on the inside (towards the passenger side)? Same orientation as the 3rd and 4th lever, or the opposite?

Dfrazz's picture shows the pin inserted from the passenger side and clip on the drivers, but is that different because the rods are different for a b body?

Thanks, that's exactly how mine is setup. I guess I'll wait until I have the clutch hooked up and see if that frees it up.

Just noticed the 3/4 rod is hitting the frame, is this common?

Any harm in moving the rod up to the next hole to help clear where it's hitting the body?
