Car show tire kickers
« on: July 12, 2016 - 12:03:56 AM »
What do you guys do with the car show tire kickers who ask how much and even when you politely reply it's not for sale they demand a price.

One guy cussed me out when I wouldn't give him a price,  other guy I finally gave a ridiculous price too.   I'm sure some of you have some creative ways of dealing with these punks

Yep, there's been a couple of times that guys have insisted I give them a price even though I've already told them it's not for sale.  It's quite annoying.

I just tell what it's insured for and that ends the conversation.

this just happened to me last night at a car show...about 200 cars/motorcycles, 1 cuda, 1 charger, 1 Roadrunner (mine)...3 people asked me if it was for sale, I said "do you see a for sale sign?"  2 offered me 30k...I said no thank you...but if I got 35, it'd be gone.

ive had people make me offers, but ive never had anyone be an ass about it.  im polite, and people are usually polite back.  but i havent been to a show in a long time.  they started making me uncomfy with so many people hanging around my car

I just had this happen to me as well at the Spring Fling, and he was a Mopar owner,  :screwy:  he had a 1970 440 convertible that was very nice.

He came over and asked about my car and then asked if it was for sale.  I said no its not, he then said everything is for sale just name your price.  I told him it wasn't for sale but I would take a trade for it. He said what would you take in-trade for it....I said your car straight across.....for some reason he walked away.  :dunno:  :smilielol:

Although I've had this happen 2 or 3 times, only once was the guy really aggressive about it.  I probably would have given him some smart@ss answer just to get him to go away but I didn't want to find out later that my paint had somehow gotten accidentally scratched while I wasn't looking.

Anyhow, next time I'll probably respond with something like; "I don't know and I really don't care because it's not for sale" or "if you really want to know, just go to NADA and look it up for yourself"

Also happened to me at Carlisle in 2002. The first show I took my Challenger to after I finished the restoration. I was driving down the road  to get to my spot on the show field and i see this guy running behind my car following me. I get to the E body section and was backing in to a spot and he is sticking his head in my window asking me how much I want for it. I looked at him and said can I finishing parking my car. I am still backing the car up and he is like running around the car looking at it. I finally get it parked and shut off and he is in my face again saying he want to by it now and has CASH. I say it is not for sale  and he say I 'll give you $ 30,000.00 for it RIGHT NOW. I am like buddy I just finished the car last week and this is the first show  for the car.  I started cleaning the car and he is following me around the car telling me he is serious and just bought a 70 440*6 Cuda and another 70 Challenger. I said good for you so you do not need mine. He say's OK I give you $ 35.000. I tell him no and he gives me a paper with his name and a phone number and said call him when I am ready.  That was 14 years ago this week  and I won 1st Place and I haven't called him yet--LOL.

Over the years this has happened to me a number of times.  Because my Cuda was unrestored and kinda rough for a long time everyone and their uncle thought I did not know what I had and that if they made me some kind of offer that they thought was generous (never was, obviously they did not know the values of mopars) that I would sell it to them.  It was always fun to throw out a number that I knew was ridiculous for the car and to see the look on their face and watch them just shut up and walk away.

Now that my car has been recently restored I have a number in my head for when this question comes up (and I know it will).  If they agree to pay the amount then they can have the car.   :grinyes:

Best one ever....had a car for sale at a show and got a call on my cell phone saying I am by your car and want to talk about it. So I walk all the way back to the car which had a  "Direct Connection" license plate bolted on the front and he asks (be ready for this) "How much for the license plate? I told him the car is for sale and he says he just wants to buy the plate, so I told him--it's $35K and comes with a car.
