Chris with the 15' Coyote supercharged Mustang wanted to take the cars out for a jaunt.
Ran into him at the Chevron while filling up the Cuda.

I said "meet me back at my place"
He showed up 15 minutes later.

I had the Cuda in the garage and gas was starting to pour out pretty fast right where the pick up goes into the tank.

So I took off the heat shield and the Magnafow muffler which bolts up right below the pick up that uses a collector.  Fuel is getting all over the garage floor as I scramble to get to the issue.

I need to stop this fuel getting all over the garage as it was now overflowing the oil catch can.
So I begin trying to siphon gas from the tank.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a gas siphoning expert sucking from a hose. As it is, I got fuel all over my face and in my eye.   :o  Ouch! that stings!

Finally the fuel stops dripping. I wash down the gas flooded driveway and clean the pick up area where the leak is at.

So maybe it was loose?
I get my race bearing punch out to try and tap it a few times on the edge and that is when all hell breaks loose. 

Gas is now pouring like a water faucet out.   :22yikes:
I was feeling like the Captain on the Exxon Valdez must have felt when he saw the mess he had on his hands.

What do I need to do on the flat donut seal so I never see this happen again?
Is there a polypropylene type that resistant to gas or a silicon type?

This seems to be a common situation with new tanks & lock rings , eithe the tabs are too loose or the ring is too thin or the gasket is too thin allowing fuel past

WTF  get( push) the car out of garage first. Burn the place down.
catch the fuel in some container..  newspaper.
everyone has a siphon tube w/hand pump. Should.

This could've been a seriously dangerous or deadly drive today if I hadn't noticed the leak.

My buddy I texted and I both believe that the Ethanol in the fuel is shrinking and drying out the seal which caused the situation.

I recall police interceptors had specials hoses and gaskets.
This fuel today needs a gasket at that is more Ethanol fuel resistant.

Agree with your reply. His was inappropriate. Had similar issue with mine a year ago when changing to my return line setup. Deal with it and play it safe with what you currently have on hand.
Yes today's fuel blend is playing havoc on these old style setups.

Ethanol is not new, only the political rhetoric is.  Its been in the fuel supply since the 70's.

I've read that the gasket and the lock ring are thinner then they once were.  That can cause your issue.  If you still have an original lock ring, you can clean it up and see if it fits any tighter.

Do they sell non ethanol fuel in your state?  I can get non ethanol here in Iowa.  I never put ethanol in the Challenger.

Wait a minute, you can get non corn fuel in Iowa, isn't a lot of corn grown in Iowa to make us use corn fuel? Haha

Three grades at the pump.  Two are ethanol one is not.

Lock ring...was this out the sender hole or the filler tube hole???

I used the original lock ring from what I recall.

I found a new seal and lock ring on amazon for 5 bucks.

I was thinking of spraying copper spray gasket on it to help it stay centered as I tighten it.
