Hey guys,

I normally have "my guy" do this kind of work for me, but he's busy and its time I learn! 

How difficult is it to take off my Mopar crossram and reinstall my Ray Barton intake with the Pro Systems carb I bought?

I'm not stupid, but I have never really tore into a car motor, just bikes (and 2 strokes at that).

Any "newbie mistakes" that are often made while doing a swap like this?  Any special tools (I have torque wrenches) I will need?

Do the carbs have to come off the crossram, or can they stay on?

Well pics or more info would help
 what type of crossram & engine ?
 Some the carbs could be left on other the carbs will interfere

I do this work infrequently but the actual mechanical part of the job is not hard at all. What I would be cautious of is the geometry of the existing intake to the heads and the new intake to the heads.

Hemi intakes are hard enough to seat because of the small mating surface on the head ports. So you may want to compare the new intake with the old intake when removed. Even then you may have to experiment with gasket thickness to seat the new intake.

I went from a single 4 bbl intake to a stage V dual quad intake. I had the intake on and off of my hemi 3x before getting it to seal properly (no vacuum leaks from the valley side).

Holy hell why would you want to change that!!!  That looks just awesome!

Keep in mind I do not have any experience working on a Hemi...but I think it all comes down to nuts and bolts.  If you are comfortable turning nuts and bolts, I would say go for it (tuning the carbs is another deal all together).  There is enough information out there now a days that I am sure you can find a walk through of what you need to do. If you look at that and thing you can do...go for it.

I have taken on a few things over the last few years that I was not to sure I could do, like rebuilding my steering box, and they mostly have turned out ok.

My experience is with small blocks. However, I think BB and Hemi would be easier since you shouldn't have to deal with 1. antifreeze 2. distributor.

The intake on a BB doesn't have water running through it...that makes it an easier swap.  You can probably do the job without even moving the distributor.  A small block has water in the intake and you (more than likely) have to remove the distributor.

Also be sure to follow the torque sequence for the hemi intake in inch lbs with a small torque wrench.

Taking my time, I had the intake off in an hour last night.

I do need the torque sequence for the new RB intake......

Will post pics later.

Start in the middle, do the two middle ones on one side then do the two middle ones on the other side. Then the next two on one side then to the other side and do the next two (working your way outward from the middle obviously). Don't overtighten but check torque on them about 5 times or until they take a "set". Then check them every few days, especially after it's run and heat cycled a few times. They are finicky but it isn't rocket science either.
If you do all of one side and then all of the other side there is a chance you will rotate the intake and that's why a lot of guys run into trouble.
