Broken steer column mounting stud
« on: August 08, 2016 - 07:26:41 AM »
Hi Guys. On my last post I fixed one problem, but now created another. My column was in and was just tightening the nuts on the studs under the dash when SNAP. Looking at the stud maybe it just screws in?I hope I can just screw out the stud and install a new one. PLEASE dont tell me I have to take my dash back apart. Anyone know?

The two studs just screw in, not welded. :2cents:

If there's enough of a nub left, just double nut it and back it out. They also extend through the bracket quite a bit and you may be able to reach in and turn it down and out. Mine were painted and didn't want to come out easily though. You can use 1/4" threaded rod to make a new one if you don't have a spare oem one. Good luck

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it was not that easy for me. I drilled it with a reversed drill. No go. tried easy out No go. Tried re tapping it, broke the tap. After I worked that out was able to drill and tap to 5/16. GO :ylsuper:
