Carb info needed!
« on: August 09, 2016 - 07:42:13 PM »
1971 Barracuda with 440 4-barrel Holley 4160 750cfm carb. Nothing hooked up when we got car so not sure how anything goes. Fuel lines run and getting ready to drop engine. Needing help, info, tips and tricks with installing and tuning our carb. For example, correct transmission kick down assy for 727 TF automatic (Lokar?), and what other parts or hookups needed to get carb/engine ready to fire. Extreme newbie with carb stuff but built entire motor ourselves learning as we went so we can handle it, just need some help!

I can't see the pics for some reason, but Lokar cable set up works fine if you don't have the factory style rod. My advice is to remove the float bowls and record the jet numbers for primary and secondary. This way you have a reference as to where to go for tuning after firing up the engine. Do you have the correct throttle cable adaptor for the Holley MOPAR combo?

Yikes you just spoke in a foreign language to me. Lokar works fine if you don't have factory style rod? What rod?

Remove float bowls and record the jet numbers holiday-whooby-whattie? How do you do this? I know absolutely NOTHING about carbs.

Correct throttle cable adaptor for the Holley Mopar combo? I'm lost here too. I'm so sorry, I'm not dumb when it comes to cars or engines, I know quite a bit actually. But carbs are like this deserted island I've always been afraid to go to because of the giant monster spiders that may be the only inhabitants! I'm willing to learn though.

Sorry for that, not to worry there is enough knowledge on this site to walk you through anything, believe me... So, i guess you don't have the factory kick down throttle "rod" that connects the carb to the transmission? I'll post a pic of one that i have for ref. If you do not have this a LOKAR cable will  work if need be. You need to remove the carb float bowls and record the jet numbers stamped into the jets. There is some very good youtube videos on carb tuning. I'll post the links later. My internet is very slow at the moment. l'll post links later.

That is the Mopar carb adaptor. The pics came through now. Please get rid of the  FRAM oil filter!! Maybe other members can post why no Fram oil filter?

:roflsmiley: Wadmin, I'm not laughing at you, I just found your post humourous. I greatly admire your resolve to learn and your willingness to take yourself into new territory. I read carb posts on here and get confused like crazy. Go to a wrecker and buy some cheap old carb to dismantle and use as a learning lab. Then tackle the new one. Good luck with it.

I like that color green 440!! Her is a Holley Performance youtube video for the MOPAR adaptor:
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLdp9XeZclk&list=PL353239D6A7D7BFF0&index=7

Holley has posted on youtube all the videos you need to tune your carb, however, they're just videos and questions always come up. IMO you want to become familiar with the carb by removing the float bowls and record the jet numbers on the primary and secondary sides. Also note the number on the power valve (and PV location). This will be important info when the engine is running and it's time to tune in your carb.  Also think about installing an AFR gauge system, it is incredibly helpful in carb tuning.  Oil filters to use: K&N, WIX (NAPA) Fleetguard,MoPar, Amsoil and some others:2thumbs:
