Trunk Mats

Who makes/carries nice pre-formed trunk mats for a 70 Cuda?
Classic Industries has just 2 choices, wondering who else makes nice ones?

from what i've seen they are pretty much junk. the one I bought for my challenger didn't fit all that well and when i was questioning the fit,
the answers i got were, "it is what it is". they can't use the original cloth style cause i herd it had asbestos in it. so they make them out of
plastic/rubber now which had a tendency to shrink, which causes the fit issues.

No one.  There are no nice ones on the market.  You have two choices.  You can get a wrinkled one that is all balled up in a bag or get a rubber one that's rolled up in a box.  None of them will have the cut-outs in the correct spot.  None of them will look original.  I went with the thicker one rolled up in a box.  I had to re-cut the jack bracket hole...it was in the wrong place.

I've read that there were some good reproductions back in the 80's.  They were made by the same company who made them originally.  They have long since dried up.  At one time, some people were selling them as NOS.

I regrettably used the rolled up rubber ones in a box made by REM....I feel they are the best available.

:iagree: I know one person who got burned buying one of those MCO 80's reproductions for almost $2000  :smilielol:

I have one of the MCO trunk mats from the 80s for my Challenger that I've had stored away.  Unfortunately it's been rolled up and moved around from time to time for the last 25+ years, and that original material starts to tear after a while.  So mine has some tears in it. :crying:   Finally my car project is getting close to the finish line so I will be installing it, few tears and all, it's still head and shoulders above the crap they sell as repro trunk mats today.
ECS was going to come out with them a few years ago but Dave came out with some bad excuse as to why he canceled the project (IIRC "not enough preorders").  Neither me nor anyone I know heard about them taking preorders and I had money burning a hole in my pocket ready to order 3!
There was recently a discussion on mats on another Mopar forum and they said the original material is called Burtex which is a hemp/burlap material with the pattern painted on.  ACC sells some trunk mats they call Burtex but I'm told it isn't even close to right.
Jim at Detroit Muscle Technology said he is working on producing repro trunk mats.  He said he has searched extensively but hasn't found anyone making Burtex today (anyone know where to find a source please contact Jim!). His products are always great so even if he can't make them in Burtex I'm sure they will be a ton better than the mats on the market today!

I would not put the rolled up POS in a wrecking yard car. No mat would be better than them and nothing screams the owner of a car is the cheapest SOB to use one. If I see one in a car I look no further it just tells me that the owner has no problem cutting corners. No offense Alan but those mats are FUXXXX UP.

What would you prefer ? The only other choice I know of are those white foam backed folded up ones.............or NO trunk mat at all ?

You have some pretty significant E Bodies in your collection Rick, what can we expect to see when we open the trunk ?

And I would guess your customers do as well

I don't know what other choice they have.....I wouldn't give their car back to them with nothing in there  :dunno: I guess that's why Rick will never be a customer of mine :roflsmiley:

His cars are in extremely good hands anyways...although, now I'm curious as to what they use for trunk mats :clueless:
