The rotation of the crank will force oil up the dipstick if it is on the right side , on the left side the cranks rotation is downward

Well............I was hoping my first update on my project would have been some good progress,  but so far it looks like a step backward.   First,  due to the fact that this car was restored 10 years ago,  showed for 3, and sat for 7 more years,  there was some small issues to deal with.  I have been driving it more than the previous owner, so some oil and fuel leaks near the carb showed up.  The passenger valve cover bolts were very loose.  The tranny pan bolts were loose and it was dripping.  No problem.  I gave a nice rev throught the gears and then smelled oil burning off the manifold. Opened the hood , oil EVERYWHERE.  The dip stick wasn't secured and popped out.  The high RPM must have shot the oil out and the fan must have sprayed it.  What a mess.  All good now, cleaned and hasn't done it again.

Then...........Today I was driving the car to meet Bill at RMS SUPSENSION in white haven pa.  Was really looking forward to spending some time with him and get some good info about his suspension system.  And let me tell you,  he's a great guy, carved about an hour and a half out of his schedule to answer any question I could think of , about suspensions,  chassis re-inforcement, rear ends,  steering, etc.  His shop is nice, and he showed me the projects he had going on.
The weather was great,  the trees were changing all kind of colors,  I was driving a 71 cuda through the countryside,  what could go wrong??

Then fat nasty looking bird walking on the side of the road,  for some stupide reason,  right when I was getting close,  shot out like a grouse right at my car!   Although I was only going about 45mph,  I could not safely react,  and it was like a missile right in to my grill.     Broke the bezel mounts for both lights,  took a huge chunk right out of the grill.     Bill from RMS told me they stock grouse up by there for bird shoots they do.   The stragglers just kind of roam around.    :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So I guess that just cost me a grand.    Does anyone know if the re-pops of these are ok fit wise,  or should I try to find a stocker and get it cleaned and painted again?         If you look close in the pictures,  the feathers are still stuck in the grill.   Maybe the whole bird too....I'm too disgusted to look at it right now.     uugghg. :stomp:

Think of it as a badge of honour. Too many people don't drive the cars and leave them in the garage, what fun is that? Damage can be fixed and you're enjoying the car.

Sorry to see the damage, I can appreciate your frustration.  I suspect you are not sure which right now it bothering you more, looking at the damaged car or thinking about how much lighter your wallet is going to be after it has been repaired.

Anyway, good luck with the repair and we look forward to seeing pictures of the car after it has been fixed.  I know this sucks now, but just think how it will make for a great car story down the road. :)

From the looks of it, perhaps it may be restored if you still have all the broken parts?

Serious bummer.   :walkaway:

Unfortunately ,  I only was able to get a few slivers.   It broke into much smaller pieces than I would have thought.  The next pull off was 1/2 mile uproad when I stopped to check if there was any damage.  I went back to find some, but quote a few cars already scattered everything.

I have never done restorations before, so I am not sure what route is best for getting a replacement.  If the reproductions are good fits and look original I don't have any issues going that route.   If anyone has any links or recommendations, I all ears.

Yes, unfortunate. I bought one of their grills and the fit and finish is great, however it isn't cheap plus you have to get it painted....

Phase 1 of the Project is now Complete.   That was a long delay,  life certainly gets you sidetracked in a hurry,  but I'm excited to get it moving again.    Just picked up the car yesterday from Bill Reilly's shop in Whitehaven Pa at RMS Inc.
Got a brand new AlerKation with the new power steering.  Also put a set of 11" Wilwood disks on the front.    And just in time for my first trip to Carlisle IN MY OWN ACTUAL MOPAR!!.  Been going there since I was 15 years old looking at everyone else' mopar and dreaming.
Now that day is here.    I'll probably tear up when I go under the banner at Gate 3.
Wow,  what a difference.  The car is a joy to drive now.   I don't have to fight the car to stay straight and the smoother suspension took care of 90% of my interior rattles as a bonus.  Its also nice to be able to steer with one
hand,  that old manual gear box was  a handful.

I will post pictures next.    Car is going to be displayed at the RMS tent for the weekend at the show.   Cant wait!

Here they are.

Bill took the time to find a powder coat for me that was  almost a perfect match to the Rallye Red frame.  The new K Member looks great red, and we left the rest of the parts Low Gloss Black.

Quick Question....    Being my goal is to keep the outside of this car looking as stock as I can (although inside will have some modern goodies)  I want to stay with the 15" Rallyes on the rear ,  however,  I still want to go with the largest tire I can in the rear.   I am thinking the Radial TA 295 50's would be great. I am doing the Lynx Coil System from RMS  so I shouldn't have to worry about the leaf spring clearance problem.

They make a 15x10 Rallye Wheel.  I think that tire should mount nicely.

My concern,   I don't want the wheel base to be any wider than stock.  I don't want them sticking out of the wheel wells or even close to it.  I want to keep it in stock looking.   The largest backspacing on these is 5.5"  .    I believe stock 15x7's was 4.5".  So I pick up a little there.  But 3" on each side, minus the backspacing seems like it gives me a total of 4" extra width on my wheelbase?    Is my thinking correct?

So does that mean I need to have a custom width rear/axles made to keep the stock wheel base so they stay in the wheel well correctly?

Any opinions or anyway use the 15x10's.

  Thanks,

   -Bob

Well,   its almost spring, getting car antsy,  and time for me to spend some money on my cuda again.

This round I am getting the exterior in shape.   I just ordered the Gull Wing,  Chin Spoilers, Back Window Louver, and Vinyl Top.

Question for anyone who has experience with this.  Being this is a NON VINYL TOP Car,  aside from the vinyl and the Stainless Mouldings for around the bottom,   are there any other parts I will need to get this conversion complete?  I thinking on clips or retainers or anything like that?  Just don't want to bring this over to my vinyl top installer next week and have him tell me I am missing a bunch of stuff since this was not a vinyl car from the factory.

Any help would be appreciated,  thanks!
