Well............I was hoping my first update on my project would have been some good progress, but so far it looks like a step backward. First, due to the fact that this car was restored 10 years ago, showed for 3, and sat for 7 more years, there was some small issues to deal with. I have been driving it more than the previous owner, so some oil and fuel leaks near the carb showed up. The passenger valve cover bolts were very loose. The tranny pan bolts were loose and it was dripping. No problem. I gave a nice rev throught the gears and then smelled oil burning off the manifold. Opened the hood , oil EVERYWHERE. The dip stick wasn't secured and popped out. The high RPM must have shot the oil out and the fan must have sprayed it. What a mess. All good now, cleaned and hasn't done it again.
Then...........Today I was driving the car to meet Bill at RMS SUPSENSION in white haven pa. Was really looking forward to spending some time with him and get some good info about his suspension system. And let me tell you, he's a great guy, carved about an hour and a half out of his schedule to answer any question I could think of , about suspensions, chassis re-inforcement, rear ends, steering, etc. His shop is nice, and he showed me the projects he had going on.
The weather was great, the trees were changing all kind of colors, I was driving a 71 cuda through the countryside, what could go wrong??
Then fat nasty looking bird walking on the side of the road, for some stupide reason, right when I was getting close, shot out like a grouse right at my car! Although I was only going about 45mph, I could not safely react, and it was like a missile right in to my grill. Broke the bezel mounts for both lights, took a huge chunk right out of the grill. Bill from RMS told me they stock grouse up by there for bird shoots they do. The stragglers just kind of roam around.
So I guess that just cost me a grand. Does anyone know if the re-pops of these are ok fit wise, or should I try to find a stocker and get it cleaned and painted again? If you look close in the pictures, the feathers are still stuck in the grill. Maybe the whole bird too....I'm too disgusted to look at it right now. uugghg.
