Need trailer advise
« on: August 16, 2016 - 09:55:21 PM »
There is an enclosed car hauler coming for sale in an auction. Listed in excellent condition. It is a 20' Haulmark, flat front, side door on right side, I'm not sure about left side.
Is 20' long enough? What's it worth?

Depends what you want to haul,  old 4 door Newport?  No way.  E body?  Sure as they are about 16' long.

What it's worth is entirely dependent on axle capacity,  condition and year in that order

While 20' would be long enough, as mentioned already axle capacity is a huge consideration. I would never get less than a 24' myself, lots of extra room ahead of the car that way for stuff including luggage, coolers etc.

Why do you need a trailer to pull the Challenger???

Ahh! No it's not broken. Had thoughts of trailering it long distances like Carlisle or Florida. This one is coming up in an estate auction and if it went cheap enough I might snag it but I wanted to be sure it would suit my needs properly. One fault is that it's a flat front, not a V front.

If its cheap enough, it may be a good flip for what you want if it won't suite your needs.

I wouldn't discount it for being a flat front. Both still have the same amount of square footage punching a hole in the wind and I've seen a considerable amount of disagreement as to the superiority of one over the other. There is more to making it tow easily than simply being a V front.

I like to have trailers that have large axles and I order them with the same size wheels / lugs as my truck.  That way I have 2 spares all the time.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

20' is small and resale may be difficult.
24' is smallest to start with

As noted, if the price is right to where you can purchase and it doesn't work out then turn it around for a little extra coin and get what does work.
Definately find out its load rating. Dual wheel or single?
Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

I have a 20 foot Haulmark similar to the one you are considering.  It fits my needs pretty good. I don't haul very often but when I do I have plenty of room for my winch, battery, EZ-up, cooler and folding chairs.  I use it in the winter time to free up garage space too.
