Water Pump Pulley and Clutch Fan
« on: August 19, 2016 - 11:15:27 AM »
I'm dumping my electric fans this weekend. I have a set of Marches pulleys on the front end and I'm hoping the clutch and fan will bolt right up to them w/o any issues. The pump is a Milidon HV pump, the radiator is a 26" Champion. I'll drain the system, drop the top & bottom hose and push on the factory shroud. Anyone have this or similar set up? is the Marches pulley the same thickness as the factory pieces?

Aluminum pulleys are a lot thicker then the stock steel pulleys.  The locating pin on the pump should still stick out past the pulley but not by much.  You'll probably be OK but you should measure how much clearance you have between the clutch and the radiator.

Mine fit on my 408 stroker except for the cone on the power steering pump.

could you post a picture? Also, what upper radiator hose did you use? I might as well replace it, I see some small cracks in the rubber.

the alum pulley might be 3/16 thicker , I would want 1" minimum between the fan & rad

I agree.  You want 1" between the clutch face and the rad though...not the fan blades.  If you would be using a fixed fan, then 1" from the blades.  There will be some fore/aft movement of the water pump bearing as well as some engine mount movement.  1" should be a safe distance.  I've seen some pictures where there was 1/2" clearance and the clutch kissed the rad.  It didn't cause a leak but the fins were damaged.

Cool. I have a little more than an inch. I have a 26" champion rad. I bought a stock mopar shroud,  it fits, but not perfectly. I'm a bit unsure how to mount it. I guess I'll have to drill into the flame to bolt it up. Or should I use pop riviets? That what I used for the electric fan shroud.

My 22" Champion had four rivnuts installed in the frame for a shroud.  Does your 26" have rivnuts as well?  If not, you can buy them on Ebay.  Mine came with metric rivnuts.  I replaced them with 1/4x20.

Not that I saw. The mounting slots on the sides of the shroud don't line up with any holes I drilled for the other electric shroud or any holes done by the factory. I'll look again tomorrow morning to make sure.

Here is my 22".  You can see the gold zinc rivnuts (4) on the engine side of the side brackets.

Yeah, mine doesn't have that. It has a thin flange on the sides, but that's it.

Here are pics with and with out the fan/rad. The nose cone of the ps pump pulley was hitting the fan so I had to remove it.

Thanks for the pictures. How long are the ARP bolts you used to attach the pulley and the clutch fan? Mine are about 1". I'm think they aren't long enough when you add the clutch assembly.
